no vss speed sensor ( after swap)

ok i own a 1987 ranger ext cab, benn converting this truck to obd2.
all the body wiring, dash, motor, from a 1997 ranger ext cab
the 5r55e trans is out of a 1998 ranger,,
and the engine and trans harness with neutral safety switch and computer are from a 1996 4r55e ranger.
the problem im having is the rpms go way down and almost shut truck off during shift.
ther is no vss speed sensor in the trans, or in the axle housing so i assume thats the culprit.
my question is where would i install a vss speed sensor on my 1987 when theres no hole in the rear axle or the trans for it.

There should be a device, with a two wire plug in it, attached to the trans end of your speedo cable. Its a magnetic pickup drive that functions similarly to the trans speed sensor. Hook in there for your signal.

ok i looked at the trans, 1998 didnt come with speed sensor on extension housing, so i replaced rear end. went with one that i can put a vss in (1992 ranger custom driveaxle), aparently the ring gear has same amount of teeth and sensor hole the same size to fit vss,
still im having same shift problem. only thing i can think of at the moment is something in the instrument pannel may be missing?
i used the dash from a 1997 ranger and steering column that was set up for a manual trans, so theres no column shifter / prnd21 ( kept floor shifter from old style 1987 ranger) ,
also if i remove fuse 10 speedo works (same shift result) but speedometer shoots up to 160km when im only at 60km, trans shifts just as fast as speedometer shoots up. and rpms go down during shifts, when i reach 160,( 60 kms according to my gps ) if i step on the gas rpms will go down and stall truck out.
is there something im missing in this conversion ?
only problem is transmission shift.
or maybe a wiring harness mismatch?
1997 body wiring, 1997 dash/instrument cluster & steering column from manual truck. 1996 automatic engine wiring, 1996 4r55e wire harness, 1998 5r55e trans, 1996 ecm f57f-12a650-csb 1996 vss sensor now in rear axle, tried three 1996/1997/1998,
2wd truck.
thanks for help so far. very much appreciated. not too many people out there on the internet that i can follow on this subject.

:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:ok, i found the sensor on top of the trans, just before the tailshaft on the drivers side, seems there is 2 sensors on the 1997 5r55e that was changed in mid year to one just before the tail shaft. other one was on tail shaft..( before i mistakened that sensor for a backup light switch/ same location as the m5od) that was stupid!
i replaced the oss magnetic sensor with a new one.(before tailshaft) ( grey and black and pink and orange wire) $41.00 from ford 30 seconds or 30 feet warranty because its electrical , i plugged it in, made sure i oiled the oring, and its all the way in and tight. replaced the abs sensor on the drive axle. and still no luck. still speedometer only works when i pull fuse 10. reads 160 kms hr when 60kms. and when i plug in fuse 10 and disconnect the plug on the cruise control servo, same thing. when fuse 10 is in and cruise is plugged in no speedometer signal, and truck runs the same as above) speedometer fuse is #25
and is not blown
any body got an answer for me.
this project is basically treated as a manual to auto swap.
1997 ranger body wiring, dash, steering column, engine compartment to lights, airbags, etc... all from a 1997 ranger with m5od standard trans,
sold trans m5od and bought 1998 5r55e. replaced rad, trans cooler, starter, 1996 ecm, 1996 engine wiring, 1996 4r55e trans wiring all from same 1996 truck, newtral safety switch, cut off clutch pedals, capped off the clutch pedal switch with the auto cap 1998 explorer, (its only jumpers) 6 prongs in it. floor shifter from the 1987 ranger.
please i need some answers. oh yeah od off is flashing, airbag is flashing. po1707 newtral switch reads low? shifting and speedo way off?
do i need a new steering column from an automatic? did i put the wrong dash in? and wiring? do i need a cluster from the auto? if so 1996 or 1997 (2wd/rabs is my truck)
help somebody!!!!!!
anybody!!!

thanks

no ideas? someone here has to know. 1997 ranger obd2 manual to automatic same year. what do you need to swap? changed trans/5r55e/ engine wiring and trans wiring 5r55e with new small speed sensor on trans, new nsswitch.changed gem,abs module 4by2, my dash and steering column are still from a manual. put floor shifter in. my problem is speedometer reads too fast 140 out of the driveway so shift points are messed up.
