Have any of you performed the upgrade covered by the Ranger Station "High Beam upgrade" found tin the TRS technical section? My 2011 Ranger uses the 9007/HB5 bulb for headlights. This sounds like an easy upgrade to do that will really help with motoring through rough places on dark nights but I am worried about excessive heat quickly destroying the 9007 lamp.

I might do this on just one side to test it out.

All that heat isn't great for the lens either.

If you really want more light for off-road, go buy more lights.

This is best done with vehicles that have separate lamp housings for Hi and Low beam. A acquaintance I knew from college had the bright (see what I did there?) idea to run some super-duper bright bulb he rigged into his Ranger, and yes, he DID melt his housings.

I'm with adsm08, consider this a second vote for another set of lights.

melting the lenses

Thank you for the good advice. Melting the outer lens would be a bad thing.

I have PIAA5190s mounted in the front bumper and the results have been disappointing. With a winch occupying the center of the bumper I had made there is not much room for other lights. I may get one of the led strips to fit above the winch. I have been putting that off due to fear that someone will steel it.

It won't melt it, but it will make it cloud up a lot faster.

You might want to consider some LEDs as auxiliary lights. They're low draw and can be quite bright (i.e. not street legal). I can point you in the direction of some that I use on my motorcycle (see signature), if you're interested.
