Hey guys, great forum here.
I'm going to upgrade the stereo in my gf's 2000 Ranger xlt for her xmas present. the stock stuff is old and blown up.

I got some good info here, but i have searched for info regarding removing the door panels without luck. Can anyone post the page(s) from the factory service manual with the location of the panel anchors so i can remove/replace them without breaking anything? a link to download the fsm would be even better. I found this link on the forum but i cant find the info i need there.

i'm not looking for super great sound, just a step or two up in quality over the stock stuff to appease the little lady (she is by no means an audiophile, but she does have ears and the stock stuff is in bad shape). so far the plan for the stereo upgrade is as follows:

stuff to buy:
(4) 6.5" Polk dB speakers
6x8 to 6.5 adapters
metra DIN adapter

stuff i have laying around:
Aiwa headunit (40w/channel)
Sirius Starmate Replay
Alpine V12 Amp
Extant 10" sub in box
Ford radio removal tool (coat hanger)

thanks in advance for any help....
Imran

in my 2000 ranger there is a screw in the pull handle and one in the lower corner of the door. then you have to pry off the cover of the window crank and unscrew the torx bolt. then the panel will just slide up and off the door.

awesome, thank you Pistons23...

do you remember about the rear speakers? i appologize because i havent had a chance to get out there and really look around her truck. i will do it this weekend.

mine is a regular cab so there are 6x8 enclosures on each side of the cab. there are 4 screws that hold the grill/speaker assembly in. then there are 4 more screws that hold the speaker to the grill. are you planning to amp the 6.5" speakers? if you are, youll be happy just upgrading the fronts and setting the balance on your headunit so that all the sound comes from the front.

i have a set of infinity kappa 60.7cs components up front and im feeding them 100 watts each. i can turn the volume all the way up and theres no distortion. they definitly lack midbass, but i only notice it when i listed to rap. now, im just doing some reasearch on how to go active.

Thanks again, i wonder if it is the same for the extended cab....i guess i'll find out soon:dntknw:

No, i plan on running the speakers off of the aiwa hu i have. my amp is a 4ch amp that i will be bridging for the sub.

you are out of my league here, i'm just aiming for decent sound in her truck.

thanks again!

i was just on another car audio forum and i seen someone with a 02 fx4 ranger. its the extended cab with the access doors. the 6x8's are in the access doors. not sure how to take those panels off. shouldnt be hard though. good luck

ok, got the front speakers and one of the rears in today....just drilled some new holes for the mounts and dremmeled out some space in the trim panels for the tweeters to clear. din adapter should be here tomorrow, so i'll be able to get started on the head unit and amp/sub. i will post pix when it's all done.

btw, the rear access door trim panels are all held on by those white plastic screw-type things, you just have to unbolt the seatbelt and pry them off. only messed up one of about 15 so not too bad.
