Update on my 88 Ranger SAS

i cant resize them, they are small and i think because from a phone? and i dont know about the camera phones and such. hell i wreck phones at an alarming rate too. so i dont even try to deal with them. i have more from this guy too.

the pics are not on my page i just load them on the thing there. i will redo the page eventually to reflect the trucks current setup when i actually set it back up like it was when i originally finished the swap..

dealing with that web page crap is too much like work. i would rather build a harness or tranny or post here and a few other places then waste the small amount of web time i have working on a web page:D

ric, as to the diesel, to trial out my 6.5 will only cost me 2-400 bux if that...hell it might not cost me anything just to fit it and see if i like it. its already in my possession from one of my work trucks. i planned on swapping it last week, seems i forgot about my daughters graduation open house up here ect..i thought i had more time....then we are having another open house back in detroit next so i wont even see that diesel project for a few more weeks. i started taking the engine out of the van, it still needs clean and prep just to see if its trustworthy enough like it sits to evaluate it in my ranger. i hate to fix the leaks and put a water pump/balancer ect on it to find out its to weak. that would suck

i think dieselsmoke should drop a 6.2 or 6.5 with a turbo in this thing too if he finds the 302 too hungry for fuel. but the 4bt would be a better bet as you can make alot more RELIABLE power with those lil animals. i dont think the 6.2 is up to the 53's..at least in stock form. a guy by the name of moontank you can find on pirate really did well with a mud setup and the 4bt so ol diesel smoke would be wicked sounding rollin on 53's with a cummins in it for sure. and we know it will work great for mud. tank more then proved that one.

i am just using what is most cost effective for me.

if the 4bt fairy dropped off a powertrain.....it would only be a matter of hours on my next day off before my rig was clattering down the road for sure:icon_hornsup: and probably bellerin coal from a stack too:D

one thing too. to do a realistic diesel swap using a gm military type surplus powertrain say from ebay would most likely be done by a d.i.y. for less then 2 grand if a guy already had an sas truck. that would net 20 mpg in a rbv on 35's at legal speeds porperly geared. burning wmo or wvo would further lower the operating costs.

i have a healthy 302/gt40 engine and it handles the 44's on the road with no problem with 410 gears, of course i dont use od in the aod either, dont have too. that makes me think a banks 6.2 and 400 would work great.

in the thicker mud i need low range cause i dont want to wreck the tranny, but the 2.6x ratio is a lil steep for max wheel speed.. a 205 203 doubler would be perfect with 1.96 to spin the tires the right speed to float it better..and 4 to 1 to control obstacle movements.

on the trail a few days ago i blew both d shafts and broke the t case, i am now on my last ford t case too...:D

i love this project, its just so awosone, i cant explane it

and i love the idea of a cummins in a ranger(i want to swap a motor in, not sure what yet)

o and love the flat black and the stack
i think mines gonna be flat black, and than get some of the guys at my moms work to grafitti it, mabe flames

idk yet, good luck man

i bought a 2 1/2 ton 6x6 today :D rockwells it is :D

Wow, posting for updates.

May need to steal the spring mount setup for my GW D44 axle swap. though I am planning to use the stock waggy springs if they arent too stiff.

i am settlin on 60's for now..:derisive:....but the black satin paint....i think i need to really consider that.

you should go with the black paint,
but the black with the tan exo cage and theme thing im going to have going on... totally only mine :thefinger:

by the way i got the whole 6x6 for less then the cost of a dana 60 :yahoo:

Edit: oh and that includes delivery to my house :D

for who?

all totalled i made money on my 60 swap:bye: tuning will be a different issue, they are not locked yet.

that and i can drive my junk to wherever...triple digets on the freeway where its open and actually free and nobody is looking. never seen a m/a equipped rig that was doing that cost effectivly. of course that on small 35-40 in tires. aint going anywhere far on big mudders:fie:.

or those would be the axles i would be runnin:wub: they just look so bad ass...you have to want them.

was able to get a bigger pic....

i like your truck, what axle do you have in the rear it doesnt look as wide.

i dont have pics of the truck yet, its a studebaker m35a1 6x6, i feel bad cutting the thing up cuz it still runs and drives good, but i want the rockwells :D

I'd hack the rear of the frame off after the frontmost rear axle. Build a custom bed for it and wheel that. It'd be way better than a Ranger..... Then keep the ranger as a smaller play toy since its almost finished (sort of).

I know a guy who is building a truck just as I described with his Father, should be pretty badass when finished.

crappy cell pic, i decided to get the goodyear at-2a tires rather then the michelins, i heard the goodyears were softer and air down better, there 49" i think i got 51 when i measured but they only have 49s and 53s
