"Unnaturally Aspirated" LS Ranger

Why not use the 7-speed modified T-56 from a C7?

Just kidding, I do like the build !

I made my mounts and have them tacked together. I'm going to bolt the hood on to see clearance before final welding. I'm going to have to build manifolds for it too.

Here's a pic of the mount tacked together.

And a pic of my steering shaft clearance. I'll be able to make manifolds relatively easy

Looks good. Did you get his tune before he made the cam change, and intake, and stuff. I'm interested in how this turns out. I debated getting a 4.8 for my truck, but gonna use a 5.8 and dump some money in it. Gonna have to modify the steering shaft huh? Good choice on the turbo too. Those not only look great but they fit the budget bill.

Yeah I got the tune before the last cam swap. Actually the steering shaft should be fine. I ordered some flanges and I have access to a nice exhaust bender to build my own manifolds.

I set the hood on and it clears the intake. Also had to machine a spacer to make my accessory belt work without the power steering pump. I might change the routing again though. After looking at it, I'd like to route it with more contact on the crank pulley than what I did today.

So your gonna run the MSD box for timing and use the MS2 for fuel? Kinda a cool setup he had. I have a MS1 that I am thinking of using in the same way as he did with a sbf. Mallory has a boost referance setup thats pretty easy to setup. I'd make my own manifold too. Just need a chop saw and a welder and make a jig for holding bent pipe in the chop saw. You gonna use 14ga mild? here is a thread to read as its got some ideas that could help. http://www.theturboforums.com/threads/362647-Single-GT45-357-Ranger-Build

I'm using the MS2 for fuel and ignition. Not sure what I'll use yet for the manifolds. Nothing fancy. I planned out all the hot and cold side routing. Now it's just a matter of doing it.

I haven't had a ton of time to work on this lately but I got a decent start on manifolds last night. I'm hoping to have the drivers side done tonight.

Are those custom fabbed mounts, or partial use of the stock ones?

I built them completely. The LS engine is super easy to fab. I used a plate of 1/4" steel with 4 holes drilled. The bolt spacing was 6x4.5" if I remember correctly.

Imay try to use and old SBC mount with an adapter plate, i don't want a solid mount. I'll know more on mine once i yank the 4.0 v6 out.

only thing bad about the ls is that oil pans in steel can be pricey.

they should be called the lse.....like super easy:icon_rofl:

you could make one work in a small fwd car if you wanted to.:dunno:

one step at a time alix. lovin it:icon_thumby:

The truck oil pan actually sits down in there nicely. There's only one spot where it drops down that is close to the Ibeam. Im going to pull the pan to clearance about an inch then TIG weld it back together.

GM put a variation of this motor in the Grand Prix, Impala, Monte Carlo and even the LaCrosse and called it the LS4. Same displacement but with their 90 degree bellhousing bolt pattern to fit their standard FWD trans.
