Unicorn Parts

I still haven’t filled my wish list, but I found that Yukon is making the gears I need again so I no longer really need a D-35 with 4.10 gears, lol.

Still need an early 4.0 manual computer though, I’ve been driving the Choptop a bunch and that high idle is annoying

I just ran back through the old messages to make sure I am looking for the right parts - computer from any year OBD1, explorer or ranger right - 4.0 manual trans?

any first preferences?

any refusal on condition - pristine only, blown cap ok? (I think I can get choice of em in the explorer land so will look through all avail for the best one, but should the choice come down to 1 only I understand passing on it, just need to know which way I should zig should it happen.)

That should be correct. I don’t think there was any real change in computer pin-out between Explorer and Ranger back then. I’m running a harness from a 91 Ranger 4.0 with a manual transmission. As long as the price is reasonable, I’m good with whatever

I think the shipping will be about as much as the computer - in the price list it says $20

By 94 the harnesses I've seen are wired for sequential injection. That means 6 pins and 6 chips to ground each injector. The 91 is batch fire, 2 pins and 2 chips for grounding injectors. IDK if it would overload the chips in the newer ECU to run the old harness or not. If I had to guess, Ford just used 4 more of the same chips they already had. Then again, it might've been cheaper to use the smaller chips...

BTW, the weather was nasty the only days I could go last week, but today seems to be decent enough with the next 3 days ok as well.
I dug a little bit which years were SEFI and batch and found Allan's detail

/edit - the correct link

so I updated my compatible list to be 90-93, check the color of the injectors, and 94 might even work plug and play (SEFI).... and as we know 95+ is OBD2 so no go.

Is that the right link?

nope....
copy paste misfire... hey at least it wasn't porn.... give me a minute to search again and find it.

Here's the first I meant to link back in post 66

and here's a little deeper on fuel economy and etc:

Now here's the good news and the bad news:
I kinda struck out on the radiator - there was zero 4.0L+auto+A/C in the yard today, but there was a bronco 2 with a double thick radiator....problem is the front of it looks like someone took a steamroller and intentionally smashed all the fins flat

And on all those Non-Auto's there was a 1993 Explorer 4.0L Manual.......
bad news, someone already kiped the computer.

The worst news... you know how I said rows 2 and 3 had a bunch of rangers, well now there is one sweet straight 1960 Ford Falcon sitting at the head of row 3 and not one single 2nd gen ranger in the yard. More 3rd gens, I could grab 2 pairs of 1993 door panels in tan, but just no 2nd gen offerings.

update on my findings... 2 days ago I went to the closest yard, struck out on everything.
Today I went to the 2 yards outside Greeley and Windsor - found several 4.0 Auto A/C and got a radiator, the 2 manual trans I ran across had no computers in em.
First gens suddenly got real scarce, the only one I saw was on big tires and I honestly forgot to look for pitman arm.

got to see a few more falcons, a couple of comets, a galaxie (old one, not the modern) something that was labeled lincoln towncar by the lot lizards but looked almost identical to another that was listed as "1955 courier", and had chrome trim ghost outline that said "customline"

How about the oem bodylkit for a bronco ii xls?

did not know I was supposed to be lookin.. did you ping me here or anywhere else on it?

the close yard for sure has some bronco ii's, one with the double thick radiator. The other two yards had some as well, I remember tripping over one in Greeley twice trying to get back to the explorer I got the radiator out of.

and color me blonde, but what is "bodylkit"

oh and I don't know that there was a conversation, but I looked for Custom emblems, so lots of XLT, a couple XL, one with nothing just plain ole ranger - no customs.
