Lock cylinders, if you have a working key for both, are super easy. IIRC, you turn it to the run position and poke a sort of button on the bottom of the column under the cylinder and it comes right out. Installation is easy, with it in the run position, you just shove it in. Column shift autos are a little have that thin indicator wire and some extra linkage to swap over, but all in all, swapping columns is pretty simple.

Anyhow, looking under there I saw there was both tanks, and basically the truck is completely intact other than the bumper+radiator+hood (yanked off to get to the motor) and the motor (gone)... This has me pondering, I know there are several somewhat kinda rare rangers or with rare setups in the yard I frequent the most.

I have an 83 XLT Diesel dual tank. My tanks are in great shape, but if that truck has a working fuel selector switch/valve and the sending units out of both tanks I'd certainly be interested. Only 83/84 had the senders without the pump in tank so they're specific to those two model years and damned near impossible to find. Unfortunately both of mine don't work so I've been using a dip stick for a while to check my tanks.

no tank selector switch in cab... post #6 was a long wordy one so I forgive the skimming and missing that fact.
Both tanks are up, have their straps in place and are basically as the factor installed em, nobody has started pulling em down yet.

I really don't think that one is going anywhere soon... they place the most rare vehicles at the farthest west end (the only 50's truck and 40's coupe are the farthest to the west as well) and that one is the last truck to the west in its row so I think they recognized it and decided to keep it around longer term. They have cleaned out that row and it survived so I am pretty sure they will keep it till it gets pretty well picked clean.

They actually just reduced the dodge section by a whole row and increased the ford and chevy sections both by a row.

Don't suppose you can scare up a picture so when I pull em I can verify they are right ones? It's quite possible someone "farmgineered" and used some kinda generic like a marine universal unit and if they did a really good job I wouldn't know for sure without knowing what I am supposed to be seeing.

edit: this is what the OEM ones look like, right?

fwiw, if this doesn't work out I figured out a sending unit for my '48 just by going to autozone, asking to see their spectre manufacturers book, and stood there for an hour looking for one with the right flange dimension and ohms range then just re-drilling a correct bolt pattern. It has a full size bronco tank but a carb pressure (very low, like 6psi) fuel pump and a goofy ohms range to go with aftermarket gauges.

My install is very clean and looks like it could have been factory other than the fact 2 extra unused bolt holes and an extra thick (1/8) cork gasket made out of "gasket sheet".. hence I ask for pix.

Edit: I looked again and I remember what I had to do, I used a standard fuel injector pressure pump (40-60psi), then under the hood added a regulator to drop it down to carb pressure (5-6 psi).

@lil_Blue_Ford did it rain monday? did you make it to the yard for the $80 sale?

I ask because I got my parts, and without any firm orders, did not look at anything else - but I wrote down the door tag for both the donors I picked from (both were 4x4 and had complete front axle under em and looked kinda dana 35-ish)... door code 86 and F6, now if I can just find that page here on TRS where the door codes were decoded.

oh and the lock cylinder on a 2nd gen is different than a 3rd gen - might be a button on the 3rd, but the 2nd takes a bent wire shoved up in a blind hole from below - column swap done.

They're both 3.73 gears, the F would be a limited slip rear. Both decode as 7.5" rear axles so the front may or may not be a D-35

And you are correct, by button I was meaning you shove a wire or punch up in a hole to depress the "button", sorry, I should have been more specific...

@Brain75 , almost forgot... So it did rain but it was kind of misty hit and miss in the afternoon so I went. I walked away empty-handed. My fault, I didn't find the front axle that I wanted so I didn't take anything, but looking back, that was a dumb move. I could have got a wheelbarrow or two of good parts. As luck would have it though, this coming Monday is another $80 wheelbarrow sale so I may try for some redemption here. Unless something new comes in the yard before Monday, there's no 4.10 geared D-35 there though. 3.27 and 3.55

i wouldnt mind a clockspring out of a 2nd gen with cruise. also if theres a carbon fiber radio bezel, the ultra rare carbon fiber monoleafs, or a blue splash tailgate lol.

If it's for your 95, that is actually a 3rd gen. Third gen is 93-97, no matter what Wiki says.

was gonna ask what the.... 2ng gen carbon fiber anything huh?

lol.
don't think there is anything splash in the yard, but 3rd gens are the most common (least looked at by myself, at least until my 2.9 inevitably cracks the heads and I need to start looking for heads)

I've done that myself, a sleety drizzly day that I went to the yard like an idiot after checking the "forecast" but not looking outside... I did not want to be there, I tromped the whole dang thing, noted that there was XYZ and then crawled back in the cab and drove away without tromping around a 2nd time.

I have a '92 in the back yard with the composite leaf springs, so they were put in some of the earlier ones...

Just FYI all of those radio bezels I've seen were faux carbon fiber. The bezel was still plastic, but it had a painted CF style finish, kind of like a water transfer print. Some of the Mazda B-series had it too. I think it weas the Troy Lee edition ones.

This yard is disorganized, but when I went looking for the first Ranger (they give row numbers, but there can be a Ranger in row 3 and one in row 33, so it’s always wherever), I found two Rangers side by side. The first I found had a 4.10 LS but it was a 98+ so the front axle is useless to me. The next truck over was lifted (rough country) and was a 93-97, but the gears turned out to be 3.27 and that with the rain just kinda killed it. Looking back, I should have just set up shop right there, pull the lift stuff, front axle and rear axle from the other truck. I’d have everything I need except the proper front gears. Granted, I have no desire to use the RC passenger axle pivot plate and the spacers for the radius arms, but the rears were whole spring packs not AAL from the look and it had a drop pitman.
