Two sides but...local parts stores are dying for a reason

A lot of places have gone to more of a "the starter (using starter as an example) you buy has a lifetime warranty" as in they replace it once. It isn't so much a lifetime supply of starters.

Yeah i was surprised they kept giving them to me.

To be fair i think the first couple got killed from heat (460 with headers)

NAPA took away my lifetime warranty fuel pump. If I didn't have a receipt that said "lifetime warranty" on it I would have been out of luck. Last time I swapped one out, I got a receipt that says 12 month warranty. Sneaky sneaky........ "lifetime" means they can take it away when ever they want.

These days, "lifetime warranty" means that when the part dies, its lifetime AND its warranty both expire.

They should sell higher quality stuff if they're cutting the warranty. If you can get 20+ years out of an OEM starter then an aftermarket or reman should be good for a long time period or have a lifetime warranty forever - yet there is so much junk out there that lasts only 12 months and 1 day. Preaching to the choir here but that's exactly why I started ordering stuff and not bothering with brick & mortar stores. B&M used to offer good service, parts consistently in stock and reasonable prices. I don't get any of that any more so I can't stay loyal to B&M.

it only gets better.............

now that First Brands has gone bankrupt the manufacturers they owned are closing down.

read an article today about Stop Tech, Raybestos, and Centric shutting down. lots of others affected.
apparently in the world of corporate greed they will literally stop at nothing

another thing that doesn't help is most of the parts stores (and I'll even throw some dealers in there too) seem to hire anyone with a pulse, watch them struggle and not train them, and then when they don't perform well they ship them out the door. I have seen it more than once during my full time career running a Ford dealer parts dept.

Cardone is part of that too. I think most of their rebuilt parts are junk but it was better than nothing. I don't know how any other company could take on the remanufactured parts business from scratch - a real bummer.

Hope the Cardone cam synchronizer I ordered a couple weeks ago works, I might be out $150 if it doesn't.
