Turbo fun

I would suggest doing it the other way, get pistons first, because you need them. Then the tuner, then injectors/fuel pump, and then the turbo kit. The xspower kit is better because it comes with more little pieces that you will need. I made the mistake of buying the turbo first. It leads to breakdowns, or a lot of parts collecting dust.

so the link you posted about pistons, those will work with my motor as is? like I can rebuild it and it will still run stock everything else? maybe I need to get the head done and valves done, when I have it pulled im going change every sensor, all the wiring, all the vacuum lines, everything I can find, hopefully with motorcraft or better although fomoco seems the best to me lol

The kit I posted is a drop in kit, but if you try to use those pistons on stock rods they won't work. If you want to use stock rods, you can get pistons for that, but its a lot harder to find them.

Plus the long rod kit will give you a little better compression than stock, and will make a little more power over stock.

ill go with the long rod kit definitely, go big or go home, right? im now trying to find a kit that has all of the gaskets and stuff, did you up your cooling system at all?

so.. how do I know what size main/ rod bearings I should get are? ive rebuild plenty of engines but ive (almost) always been given the correct parts never had to order them myself..

Northernautoparts.com that's where I get my gasket kits. They come complete. Or, you could buy the re ring kit which comes with bearings, then all you have to do is sell the ring set, it would put less money on the table. The bearings in 2.3's are almost always standard size, they hardly ever need to be turned down.

should i 4 plug convert my ranger? what all does that entail? im thinking about buying a junk yard 2.3 and re building it so my ranger isnt down for as long, but should i buy a four or eight plug?

I think I remember the 8 plug head being better for some reason, I went 4 plug and it's not a big deal, just ground out the two outer wires of the drivers side coil pack plug, but your tach won't work after that...

ill think ill keep the eight plug, my tach already doesnt work lol ill post pictures of the new motor and all the parts soon

Four plugs have better power potential, but as far as the better/worse argument, until you start doing some serious port work, they are about even. Since you will be getting the tuner, the 8 plug will work fine. You may have to play around a bit with the spark tables, but if you have it dyno tuned by a shop, it should be no big deal.

my build keeps getting pushed back further and further. bills suck.

I know that feeling. That's the main reason I suggest you buy the engine parts first, the turbo kit is useless if you don't have a sound bottom end to use with it.
