Truggy trail rig build thread

Did you happen to measure ground clearance from the bottom of the housings? Always wondered how much you would gain with an 8.8 over a 9, but don't have anything to measure off of myself.

I will measure it probably sometime this week and let you know.

Took the truck out yesterday beadlocks worked great with 10 in the front and 8 in the rear.

Disc brake bracket will need half the 3.25" circle cut off. And the shocks are 12" travel.

sweet pile of parts ya got:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

you have that done by the 27th???

I don't think the full width rear will be in by then but maybe shortly after.

What do you guys think about this idea?
302 with propane(2 barrel got propane kit) and duraspark ignition, np435 trans, 205 with twin stick, ditch the cab but keep the rear tubing and tube out the front.

Also move motor and trans back about 6 inches to keep driveshafts the same length.

6".....isn't that about what a doubler is???

do what ya want, but I vote ya keep the cab....then you will wheel in the winter....

I got the np435 so I wouldn't need a doubler. Yeah I might be less likely to wheel in bad weather. And the axle probably will be in before the WBR ride.
Keep the cab other wise it is just another buggy.
It would be a Ford buggy and will have a buggy sooner or later anyway.

I think if I was ever gonna make a buggy, I would start with a clean slate. If you made a buggy out of the current setup you will be building with constraints imposed by a form it's no longer going to have.

And wheeling in the winter? That's what coveralls are for!

I was thinking the same thing but my truck does great. I have looked into building a real buggy and I can't afford it. I figured at least $15,000 and then I would be taking the chance of the setup I build not working any better than the Ranger or worse.

To buggy the Ranger I need seats $500 already have harnesses pedals $0-$250 steering column $0-$250 steel about $400. Total is under $1500 and I know it will work.

why not boatside the Ranger cab.....and do the "tube dog house" that ya showed me a couple weeks ago???

that way you can keep the dash and not worry about wireing and such....

plus you can still do it in stages and keep wheeling in the mean time:icon_thumby::icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

Wiring won't be a problem one wire for the propane two for the duraspark and wire the starter and alternator. The ranger wiring is pretty crispy from a engine fire anyway. And I'm not planning on doing it until December.

If you go the buggy route, will you keep your current axles, or go bigger?
