Truggy trail rig build thread

Looking good! I always loved your truck, and when I finally get the funds to finish my build plan on doing something similar.

Not much to update. Still have one more beadlock to get done before the ride at Interlake on the 30th. But here is a driveway shot with one side done.

And this stuff came in this week from Ruffstuff for the fullwidth 8.8 swap. Still waiting on the weld on disc brake brackets. I will be swapping axles between the 30th ride and the July 28th ride at Wishbone Ranch. The diff cover is 3/8 with a 1/2 flange HEAVY!

What are you pulling the FW 8.8 from, or did I miss it? Are FW 8.8s all 31 spline?

Me likey.

Hey man the truck looks awesome! What is the reasoning for going with the 8.8 though? I'm glad to see you are switching to disc brakes though so when you break an axle the whole axle doesn't come out. Stupid C clips. At least the disc brakes will hold it on unlike the drums. Have you considered a FF setup? Good luck!

Thanks, Do you want to ride along Saturday at Interlake? Going to be playing tour guide for some IFWDA members if they show up in this heat.

Thanks, I went with the 88 because I don't like the low pinion of the 9". I've been wheelin a 28 spline 8.8 locked with 1.5" adapters and haven't broke it so I figured the 31 spline would be a upgrade. It should be fine with 37's the way I drive. If I go bigger tires I'll go 8 lug.

8.8 rears I mean. I know the ifs 8.8's are HP

8.8 is a low pinion rear but is about 1.25" higher than a 9. I think the 9" is the lowest of all the rear axles.

Both being stock 31 spline, strength is about the same. And I already have gears and install kit for the 8.8.

Eh. I guess there are lots of pros and cons for both axles and like you said, you already have the stuff for the 8.8. Whatever gets the job done. And if it breaks you can always swap it out for something else.
