Truckspotters

There are all types and we specialize on a specific air frame, normally. For me, it's the KC-135 Stratotanker. So, I get my ability to work on old vehicles comes naturally. These were built between 1955 and 1964. We have a smattering of 1958, 1959, 1962, and 1963 models.
I probably saw some of your planes at Kadena AFB in the 70s.

It's possible. Though at that time, the unit would have had A models. From what I remember, the last A model left the base for the bone yard a year before I joined in 1987. Since I joined, we've had E, T, & R models. The E's had repurposed TF-33 (Pratt & Whitney JT3D) engines from civilian 707 airliners and the T & R models were converted from A and Q models with F108 (CFM56-2) engines.

@sgtsandman I can completely understand that point of view.

But my question is did you truly NEED the vehicle?
Or just wanted a new vehicle? So you ended up with what you got.

If I truly needed a vehicle and I couldn't buy a brand new vehicle in the color I wanted. I'd buy used one before I would anything that's the color I don't want.
Save the rest of the money and wait till another year.

I can give you a true need that ends with buying the wrong color....in 2005 my gal flipped her subaru and totaled it. Full coverage, no wheels at all once she walked away from that. She drove my car and I drove the company truck 100% (slight bend in the rules) while doing her shopping for a replacement. She has zero mechanical skills and not enough income to constantly fix on an old (and not enough brains to save the extra from purchase for future repairs)... New was basically the only real choice. She spent 3 months driving my car and doing her homework (I helped a lot), narrowed it down to a Civic or Carolla. Went to all 5 new Honda dealers in the greater Denver metro not a blue one on the lot (she really wanted darker blue from the brochure), told the one on Arapahoe road to call her the instant they got any blue ones in and middle of the next week we drove the 4.5 hours to go get it. Turns out it was light blue, they hadn't pulled the shrink wrap off or washed it or anything. They made us sit there for an hour while they "pre-prep" (detail and systems check - got it ready for the lot). After about 4 months with no vehicle she was sick of looking, waiting and dealing with not having her own car so she bought the light blue instead of the color she wanted.

At the time a dealer couldn't keep a Civic on the lot, they all got bought the instant they hit the lot, gas prices were insane, no vehicle had any resale and that was the one that held it's value and appreciated instead of depreciated.

I’m just catching up on this from my surgery. A few thoughts.

As regards truck color or car color, my favorite color is green and the only one I hate is Fugly. The majority of my vehicle purchases were for fun and hobby, and I’d buy any color at a deal so I could save my green. The only colors I stayed away from were the Fugly ones.

On the Weiner mobile, I’ve seen one in person three different times, and I got to drive one of them about 30 feet in the parking lot of my grocery store after bugging the guy for 30 minutes (1991-92). Somewhere there is a picture I’ll have to find. But I did get this on one of those visits

It appropriately sits above my commode.

A little trivia, but there are three Weiner Mobiles. The guys that built them also built the Mr. Peanut peanut mobiles. I believe there’s three of those also. I never got to drive one, but I did see one in person at the LA peanut Festival. (Dothan, Lower Alabama) Also around 91 or 92

I do remember shaking the Hand of Mr. peanut on the street corner in New York City when I was a kid. I wish they still made those Mr. peanut bars. Peanuts and pure sugar…

And one time when I was doing gas field work in Evanston, Wyoming, I got a short ride in the Idaho potato truck. That was pretty cool.

This is a newer, much more polished and finished version. I don’t think the original one was quite as big

Finally, I’ll list out all the Polish stuff another day. We’ve traced back to 1427 so far.

Some of us can trace our family lineage back to Mary Chilton… she’s credited as the first person to leave the Mayflower and step on Plymouth Rock.
Some of us can trace our heritage to this land before she was even born.

Saw this XLT at my local parking lot. 2 wheel drive w/ twin I beam front end. Must of had the have some 4wd camber adjusters installed because the lifted front end camber was right on. Nice 2 tone paint too. Got the full custom treatment! :headbang:The only thing it needs is a chrome exhaust extension.

Saw this online, imagine the (lack of) turning radius, even a rear steering axle wouldn’t be enough, how many carrier bearings on that driveshaft? How much welding wire/rod?
