I just bought a brand new altenator for my 96 ranger and it's not charging. I have a yellow and white wire coming for the plug that powers the engine that doesn't seem to have anywhere to go. I have the altenator wires coming from the firewall on the driver side that is separate from the main harness that powers thee headlights and the rest of the engine. I don't understand what the yellow and white wire do but I don't see it being the altenator itself. I need help badly, Its my only way to get around.

This diagram shows a yellow/white does go to the alternator. The yellow/white is the feedback to the alternator regulator inside it. It monitors the engine compartment voltage, that tells the regulator how hard to run the alternator. It goes to hot all the time battery voltage and is hooked to a fuse in the fuse box. You can see that in the diagram below.

Do I need to hook it to the blk/w orange wire or what? This y/w wire is coming from the plug that wires the rest of the engine such as the fuel injectors and coil pack etc ect.

I have a y/w wire to the altenator already going into the altenator on the plug. This wire comes from the connector that powers the rest of the engine. I tried hooking into the altenator on the y/w wire already going into the altenator and I have a spare lg/r wire that also has nowhere to go.

The only yellow/white wire for your charging system goes from the engine compartment fuse box to the A terminal on the alternator, as shown in the diagram above. If you have a yellow/white wire going somewhere else, it is for a different circuit. Please post pictures of what you are trying to track down. We asked for that in your other thread about this matter. You do not need to open more threads for the same issue. That just makes everything confusing.
