LOL If one didn't know any better they might try to connect the battery terminal directly to the bottom left connection.
Since it's an '87, the OP will need to use that connection (self test out) instead of the CEL inside of the cab. There is no check engine light.
The "12VLED" indicates that a led (light emitting diode) can be used there to blink out the codes. You can optionally use a test light or analog volt meter. The pos and neg terms relate to the polarity of the wires from the light, or meter.
