Transmition swap question for an 88 xlt ?

Hey guys! i bought a 88 ranger XLT with the 2.9 4x4 5 speed the other day. The transition needs a rebuild and a clutch (Its about to fly apart) . The car runs like a clock .But i have another 88 ranger, but it is the 2.9 Gt (Also a 5 speed) . My question is if could drop the trans out of the Gt and bolt it on to the XLT with no problems (except for not have 4WD)

You'd have to use the 2wd rear driveshaft too, but it should work...
