Automatic
when i start going uphill at about 40 miles per hour the transmission starts bucking at low rpm. when i gas it and the rpms are higher it works fine? also shuld i pull the pan too change fluid or is just changing 3 quarts ok?

Your transmission is bucking? I'm not sure I've encountered that before. I've had torque converters make a car shake before, and a good transmission flush fixed it. If that's your case, I don't think just dropping the pan is going to get enough fluid out. You would need to have it flushed. I know a lot of people are scared of trans flushes, but if done correctly with the right cleaners and conditioners, they usually work out.

It sounds more like a low speed/high load misfire to me.

dont shift it into overdrive unless your at highway speeds and see if it goes away. How old are your plug wires and have you flushed the fuel system, it sounds performance related to me also.

It does seem better with overdrive off. and seems like there is a miss in the motor but the tachometer doesnt fluctuate so i am assuming it is the tranny?but also i am not a mechanic. i agree it acts like maybe plug wires or fuel system but wouldnt the tach fluctuate when it misses or not?

A misfire usually happens so fast as to not cause a noticeable drop in the tach.

I thought this as well, but when he said he gave it gas and the RPMs went up, it went away, which I took to possibly mean the torque converter unlocking. But, I could still be wrong. Believe me, it's happened before.

My truck started "bucking/shuddering" badly....
......not the steering (steering wheel wasn't vibrating)

.....not the differential (bucking was in the cab area)

.....turned off the Overdrive (bucking wasn't as bad)

.....thought the transmission was going out

.....pulled over---no fluid dripping under transmission/no broken transmission mount/fluid level was perfect on dipstick/fluid color looked great/no burned smell from fluid

but.....engine was idling rough

got home....one spark plug wire had worked aloose/another S.P. wire had laid against header--burned badly--sparking on header

2 new spark plugs & a new set of S.P. wires cured everything (carbed engine)

Thanks everyone! No time untill this weekend to get back to it. I will check all the plug wires and what is S.P. wires. Also change the fuel filter and then have tranny flushed with new filter and fluid. Do you think that is a good start? Let me know and thanks again.
