tried the trans forum with no luck so i thought maybe someone here could help. I've pulled the carpet & plate, unbolted the shifter from the floorpan but can't seem to get the linkage off the shifter.

It has two little flat spots "peened" on the end from the factory preventing it from sliding thru the lock nut adjuster. It will slide fore & aft in the adjuster but won't slide completely thru. Guess it's a safety precaution from Ford so my question is..

What's the procedure for removing the linkage ? Grind the flat spots off & pull it thru ? I'm looking for the proper way to remove the shifter from the truck & reinstall it as I'm doing a cab swap. Any advice greatly appreciated !

I guess I would try to remove the whole linkage assembly....rather than monkey with peened pins. It should unbolt the bracket and whole sha-bang from the side of the tranny & disconnect linkage farther away from the tranny. This way it is all way out of your way when doing the cab swap.
