I have got a leak on my 93 ranger tranny, It is a 4 speed manual with over drive, which i thought would be a 5 speed but guy at parts store say is 4 speed. anyway, I bought a rear seal for it because i saw a leak lately as i move my truck. It looked as if it was in rear seal area. well went to crawl under the truck and it looked like it was leaking somewhere around the top of the tranny, Any ideas?
Also my oil pressure guage is on the N in the normal range one time and next time I drive it it will be on the R in the word Normal. Is that anything to be worried about, Thinking about putting in a manual guage ,

Guy at the parts store is an idiot. That is why he works at the parts store for $7.50/hour.

It is a 5-speed. Overdrive is a "speed".

Your leak is probably the shift rail plugs. They get old and wear out and leak over time.

I wouldn't worry about the oil pressure needle too much. It's an idiot light.

Oh man, that whole "4-speed with an overdrive" is one of my pet peeves. :annoyed: Some one I know closely says that the Blazer has a 3-speed with an OD. And that it locks up the torque converter for the OD. Boy does that really rattle my inner demon. The 96 Blazer's is a 4-speed automatic, 4th gear being the OD. Locking torque converter only when cruising for better fuel ecomoney, not OD. I've driven the dang vehicle thousands upon thousands of miles to know how it shifts.

Sorry, just struck a cord.

It probably started back when overdrive was an add on.

Dad's '57 Chevy is a 3 speed with overdrive... three speed on the tree with a handle under the dash you pull to put it in overdrive. The overdrive is aftermarket.

i will check out the shift rail plugs, Yea the real seal is as dry as an be. Some one here told me to check the fluid level when i first bought the truck , got some good advice on here, my fuel guage was bad because of sending unit. taking bed off was not that bad. wife and I lifted it off. just set it back around 3 feet,
The overdrive thing is funny :icon_cheers:. I learned to drive in a 3 on the tree

Yah. I gently pried the plugs out with a screwdriver. I gave the plugs a spritz with brake cleaner. Then I gooped them with Aviation Forma-Gasket ,waited 20 minutes and then pushed them back into place. ATF level has been good since. :D
