Im looking for a replacement transmission for a 2001 suzuki swift, and we have only retards for mechanics around here in my area, I was wondering if anyone knew if a Geo Metro transmission would fit? or a Ford Fiesta? (its a 5-speed stick).

And we need this vehicle on the road asap.

geo metros are made by suzuki, festivas were made by kia IIRC

I don't know if the Festiva was a Kia design or not, but I'm pretty sure it used a standard MTX trans. I know the 1.9L was a Ford engine that was used on a few other applications. I've seen them in Escorts and I think I may have even seen one in a Tempo.

Unless you can confirm a cross-make platform like the Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix I'd say transmissions from other cars are a no-go. I'd def not waste my time with anything out of a Ford Festiva. That car was long dead before the Swift even hit the drawing board.

What I know of the car says that a Metro tranny is not a likely fit either. The only GM cross-models that I know of to the Swift were only sold in Asia and Australia.

The geo metro transmission will fit, a geo metro is a suzuki swift with a geo badge. The ford festiva (originally sold as Mazda 121 in foreign countries, and sold under a lot of different names and is still available in the middle east in it's original style) will not fit, they were build by kia but it is pure mazda underneath.

I own 2 Festivas so I know that for a fact, due to always reasearching heavily into what I buy. I also was going to buy a Geo Metro that had an auto in it to swapto manual, never did work out though.

thanks guys, dad needs this car bad, so in about $400 he will have it lol (including work)

Yeah, I was looking at the Swift SUV thingy sold i n Japan and Austrailia. I went out to dinner and ran across and American one by chance, realized it was a Metro.

I think the Swift had a four banger and the Metro a 3. If I remember correctly the gear ratios are slightly different but the tranny is easily swapped on for the other.

My old '92 Metro went 445,000 miles....2 motors and transmissions...still got $1000 for it about 3 years ago. I still run on to many parts for it as I open boxes in my shed....cool little car and I had many 'mods' both easy and not so easy...

I think teamswift.com is still up...

Metros were made in Canada. The verts in California, but all the Suzzys were made in Japan. There was an importer in Chicago that I got my last tranny from..

either could be had with a 3cyl or 4cyl but only the swift got the DOHC 4cyl, I think the pontiac firefly might have gotten it too but it was only available in canada. They are also very closely related to the Chevy Metro(From the 80s) so 3cyl turbo swap is pretty much bolt in, but is not really that exciting of a swap.
