We had a 1855 oliver that we pulled a chiesel plow with, don’t remember how many shanks but we pulled the outside 2. Could really hear the engine work with it. The 1650 used a 5 bottom moldboard plow, the old jd A used a 2-14 plow and had a 2” flame from the stack at night.

Running the chisel plow behind our Cockshutt 1800, we had it running hot enough that the exhaust was glowing. It was just as the sun was setting that we shut down for the evening but manifold was definitely at dull shade of red. In morning, we pull the extensions off the chisel plow to make things easier on old the girl.

I had the base of the muffler extension glowing on my WD-45 night before last and about a foot of very faint blue flame out the exhaust while chopping cornstalks. Engine temp was running about 175 degrees or barely into the green... Picture is crap because I was literally driving thru a cornfield in second trying to take a picture while steering with my knee...

I had to drop the fuel tank out of my Ranger over the summer right after I had filled it so I basically dumped most of it in the '45... so she was is burning E10 at the moment which probably helps the lightshow.

Now that I am done with fieldwork for the year I need to get it switched over to snowfighter mode.

Actually they are to keep trash off the motor when using a corn picker. Kinda hard to find...

I only put them on in winter, they funnel engine heat back to me.

Our jd A has screen side covers with the picker, its not been used in over 30 years now, takes most of the day to put on & take off. Its a heavy beast when its all together.

A-C ones are worse... and I really want one. They go under the axle rather than over. But they are so sleek...

A's were good about breaking axles with their picker. Mine has aftermarket power steering because it had m&w pistons back in the day and had the most power between my grandfather and his brothers tractors for running the picker. Probably why the final drives sound like they in road gear too.

He didn't say anything about propane, just extension cords, but no, I would not expect to have a gel problem in any case. Believe it or not, it does occasionally get cold enough here to gel fuel, especially since we don't get the pre-treated fuel you guys up north do. It's usually fine by midday though.

Well, the oil filters and gaskets along with the new sediment bowl are here for my tractor and I have a bucket of gear lube, so as soon as I get some oil and a battery and put in a couple hours to sort everything out I should be able to find out if it will start and run…

Much as I hate to take time away from working on the Ranger, tomorrow is predicted to be the last warmer day so I should probably at least get the trans/hydraulic/axle drained and new oil in before that stuff needs to be trimmed with tin snips, lol. If I’m gonna do that I should probably just knock out the work on the tractor and be largely done with it. Still waiting on the new steering wheel and tire tubes for it but I’m not super worried about that.

Check out “yesterday’s tractors.com” they have forum sections for many tractor brands and you can order parts/manuals through them. “steiners” is a catolog with restoration quality parts, a bit more pricey than YT but sometimes you can find what you need there.
