Hey guys,

My roommates rear window on her celica will not roll back up. It is powered by an electric switch. I checked the switch on the console and no luck. I have the whole back of the car apart but I cant even manually pull up the window. She really doesn't mind if it stays up all the time, just as long as its up at this moment.

How can I get this motor up? It looks like I cant disconnect the window from the motor because that is what keeps it in place. Its a tight fit back there but I have small arms and hands.

Thanks for all your help.

Also the motor sounds like it isn't getting any electricity(making no sounds)

thanks,
Keith

you cant move electric windows manually due to the gearing holding it in place. you could try either loosening the bolts that hold the motor enough to disengage the gears and raise the window that way...or run wires directly from the vehicles battery to "hot wire" the motor and run the window back up (provided the motor itself still works).

Thanks wicked sludge,
Okay so I was listening closely, and when I press the switch down, I can hear the motor sounding like it is stopping. When I press it up to roll up, there is no sound. I think the forward(up) part of the motor is burned out. I will try to loosen the bolts that hold the motor to disengage the gears. That sounds like the best shot...

Keith

in most applications, the power is reversed externally from the motor...so if the motor works in one direction, it'll work in the other. your problem is probably in the switch or associated wiring.
