can i use a Toyota 8 inch axle out of a 1985 Toyota pickup for a front sas?

Really, anything is possible with proper fabrication. Is it driver's or passenger drive? I'd also check the width of the axle.

its a passenger side pumpkin.but all i would have to do is get a rr r&p so i can flip the axle right?

Hmmm, not sure. You'll have to wait for someone with a little more knowledge to come along. Like I said, mostly anything is plausible, just depends on how much money you want to put into it. A D-30 or EB D-44 are more popular swaps, but you may just want to work with what you have and I understand about wanting to do something different!:D

i would use a dana 44 but i just got the axle for free yesterday for cleaning out a guys back (junk) yard.good payoff though

No, doesn't work that way. Reverse-cut gears do not fit in a standard housing, or vice-versa (gears wouldn't change the direction of rotation anyway).
You could flip the housing and put the 3rd back in upright, although you'd also have to cut the knuckle balls off and rotate those around as well. But then you'll run into the fact the Toyota axle is only 55" wide (too narrow).

Early Bronco D44 or '80up Jeep Wagoneer D44 (you can narrow a F-150 D44 fairly easily as well, and would get you the hi-pinion diff in the process).

Use it! Do the research. Be different!:)

holyshit....he GAVE that to ya....thgose sell out here for 5-600 a piece.....

well, the reverse rotation r&p idea wont work, im actually building a truck roght now with yotas front and rear, im running a chebbie drivetrain in it though because of the passenger side drop.

this being said there is alot more to "flipping" a axle over then u might think. i would run a devorce t-case before flipping the axle....and short of running anything above 40" tires you WILL NOT BREAK THIS AXLE. or......if u decide not to use it then ill come and pick it up from ya LOL

i was told i can get a drop out from a 8in rev axle and it will work.im not going to be using a gearbox so i don't care to move the knuckles.its use will be mainly for sand and steep hill climbs, not rock crawling were i have a chance to snag a knuckles.yea i was luck to get it but the clean up wasn't a small chore took a lot of gas running back and forth to a dump and metal recycling place.and the axle only has 75000 miles on it.

also does anyone make rotors with a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern for the 8in

that axle is way to short to use in a ranger. You could have a custom housing made and use the rest of the parts off of that axle. but a stock ranger mouting width is about 60" that is only 55". They do make highpinion 3rds for that axle, but its still on the wrong side and not wide enough.

no, if you really want to run this rear youre gonna have to do a divorced case, and some custom wheels to make up for the difference in wheelbase. and a completely custom steering setup, and all the work to convert the toyota front diff to a coil sprung setup (however modified 44 wedges can work with 79 f-150 radius arms).

basically, if your not EXTREMELY effiecient in fab work then id hold off on putting that rear in ur ranger....

I think you need to think through what you're wanting to do here a bit more (and get a more reliable source for your info as well).

If you flip the housing without turning the knuckles back over, your steering inclination angle would be totally bass-ackwards (and who knows if the kingpin bearings would tolerate being loaded from the wrong side). Not gonna work, although if you still want to check it out for yourself, that's fine with me.

im puttin on into a projvect bII i got, already got the front all fabbed up......and im running chebbie drivetrain....becuase making the yota solid front will not function as a drivers side drop in any way shape or form...if it could be done cost effectivly then everyone who wanted todo a SAS would already have been on its nuts...

not knocking you for wnating todo it, just saying your biting off more then u can chew

Just buy a diamond axle housing and you can run all the parts off that yota axle (minus birfs and shafts, which should be replaced with longs anyways) and it can be drivers drop and the right width.
