tow package

Never seen a 3rd gen with a hitch from the factory. Your wiring is probably hooked into the tail light harness with a T-connector from Hoppy or some other accessory company. If you follow the wiring back, that's probably what You'll find. It'll also have a small converter box in the wiring somewhere that converts your 2 bulb tail/signal into a single wire for the trailer lights. It's the best and easiest way to do it. I'm not saying that You can't tow or that there is anything wrong with your truck, just that it isn't factory equipped with a towing package. Mine didn't have a factory tow package option, and I tow with it all the time but I had to install everything myself.

I know this is an old thread but a genuine "towing package" was available as early as '89. It consisted of a Limited slip diff, front and rear anti-sway bars and an aluminum radiator and diamond plate step bumper. Towing capacity for an '89 2.9 automatic was 5000lbs, the highest rating of a Ranger for that year.

My '92 2.3 4x4 has factory 10" drums on a 7.5 4.10 rear & the optional (on long beds) ~19 gallon gas tank. I doubt it has a tow package though haha

The VIN isn't going to tell you if it has a tow package. "Tow Package" means nothing more than a trailer hitch, and the trailer plug for lights. If it has an automatic transmission it may have a transmission cooler in front of the radiator, but other than that there isn't anything drastic about a "Tow Package" on any vehicle. My 93 Ranger didn't have a hitch or anything for towing when I got it. I just had Uhaul add the hitch trailer wiring plug, and an auxiliary transmission cooler and it worked just as any other truck that had a "Tow Package".

Factory trailer lights hook up question

I have a 2006 Ranger Sport 2wd. It has a factory 4 terminal plug in just under the bumper. There is no voltage at this plug in. Is there an additional fuse that has to be added to power this plug. The fuse panel under the hood has left and right signal fuses but nothing else related to trailer lights that I can find.
The in cab fuse panel that is by the passenger foot well has 3 unmarked white switches. What would these control? The manual makes no mention of them.
