Torx and Torx Plus

Its one of those things you know but forget to pass along

Ford uses torx plus in a few applications, seats and seat belts often

If your regular torx feels sloppy and next size up is too big then its most likely a torx plus head you are dealing with

Torx plus bits/sockets often have to be ordered online as most local stores don't carry them

So if you are looking for tools you will rarely need but must have, these are a good ones
Seat belts are usually T55 Plus, just FYI
And most sets only go up to T50 plus

Fun fact: The "Bronco Bolts" factory added to install misc accessories all over the new Ford Bronco are Torx Plus and not regular Torx.

So yay I get to buy more tools! Countered with BOOO! because they are boring and very similar while incompatable with the many Torx tools I already have...

Thanks for this. I wonder if a security version of Torx Plus is in use. On regular Torx, that's the one with the little pin in the center to keep you from loosening with a standard Torx driver. Finding the security bits used to be a pain, but they're widely available now.

i just knocked the pin out of those security ones. jeep used those a lot.

I fairly recently discovered torx plus. If you look closely the splines are slightly different (tapered tip) and beefier. Alot of torx bolt on my F150 are torx plus. And yes, its hard to find sets. My local auto parts stores have decent cheapo tool aisle. No sets, but I was able to find some individual TP sockets (like a TP55).

Around here 9 out of 10 would look at that pic for 1/2 sec and call it a torx. Maybe I am surrounded by short attention spans, or idiots...

Torx is great but I have had bits break on me from time to time. Maybe this is an attempt to address the snapping issue?

Anyone else remember Posi Drive screws?

Of course I had to buy the screw driver that matched my set... It may have been a GM thing. Probably been used a couple times.

I think that was a thing just prior to introducing Torx drive fasteners.
