I have a 93 Ranger XLT extended cab with the 60/40 seats. The fold-down center armrest is in need of some TLC. I can easily get the cap off the interior panel which gives access to the bolt that holds it to the driver's seat, but I don't know which size Torx or Allen wrench to get. I'll have to buy one so I'd rather not guess. Anyone know what to get?

Many Ford armrest lids are held on by T-27 or T-30 bolts.

If you are very very careful you can usually use a t-27 on a t-30 and not strip it, so if you really want to cheap out and not buy a whole set I would get a T-27.

For the small ones I bought one of those multi-pack thingies like a jackknife...but anything larger than a 15 probably needs too much torque for those.

I bought a bunch of the torx sockets and usually carry a few with me...if it is the same size as the ones on the seat belts then that would probably be a t-50...$8 each or less...

If you need to know the size of the socket/allen/torx it is usually listed somewhere...like the Haynes manual (that costs more than a few torx sockets) but I don't have mine handy or I'd look it up for you...

The on-line repair manual doesn't list the size, but lists the part number...56094 or 56904-s...search on that...or maybe visit a Ford dealership if that's handier...but not sure if that's the part you need...

Check out the on-line repair manual and punch in the year/make/model then find the trim...interior...and look at the diagram...get part numbers and go from there.

not sure if this link will work...it's the interior console diagram and shows all the parts and numbers...also might give you an idea how to take it apart without breaking something...

Thank you

Thank you all for your help. The console lid is just fine. It is the armrest itself that is sagging and doesn't stop where it should. If I can get it off I can fabricate what I need (I think) to fix it. I have a set of torx screwdriver like bits but none large enough. I'll check out the local parts stores and there's a Northern Tool store close by. Thanks again.

The correct Torx size

Use a Torx 50 to remove the bolt attaching the folding armrest to the driver's seat. I got one today at Northern Tool for $4.99.
