I've read through it a few times now, and there is one point on which I am still unsure.

How far are you supposed to pick up on the pedal? I am fairly sure that a stretched cable is at least contributing to some of my current issues, but if I pick the pedal up the whole way, I have over 1.5 inches of free-play to the end of the cable. It seems to me that if I had stretched it that far I'd never get the engine off idle.

Are you just supposed to pick it up so it isn't touching the floor, or do you take it up the whole way? :icon_confused::icon_confused:

Also, does anyone know where I can just find a new one? I've been searching, but I can only find them for the 4-bangers.

well, i picked mine the whole way to the top. i think 1.5 inches would let you acclerate

It may. I can get it up to 75 still, but it takes forever and I don't seem to have as much pedal as I used to.

It's far from urgent at this point though since I have 2 other vehicles and no zip-ties right now.

mine had a good slack on the cable, and feels better after the mod, i just touch the pedal and there it goes.

my cousins truck had an improvement too

I guess I'll do what I do with the timing. Just add until I'm happy with it.

mine had about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. did the zip ties after work today. decent improvement on my end.

Pull off the air tube that goes to the throttle and have someone push the gas pedal to the floor(engine off obviously) while theyre doing that, look at the throttle and see if it can quickly open all the way. If it doesn't, add more cables.

i picked mine all the way up but left about 1/4" of play on both my b2 and my 00 ranger

i picked mine up all the way and didn't leave any play at all, the spring is there for a reason.

I'm not sure why people are picking up on the pedal and adding zip ties...

I've always done it the way I was instructed to around 7 years ago and the method that makes the most sense to me. That was to pull the intake tube off the throttle body and have an assistant watch to see if when you put the pedal to the floor the butterfly in the TB opens completely. If not, add zip ties. My Ranger would have only needed one zip tie if I wouldn't have added an extra layer of carpet to the floor. If you would lift up the pedal on it, you would get some more slack, but there is no need to fill it with zip ties because you're not going to make the butterfly in the TB open any wider with more ties. Sure it might give you a little better throttle response, but if someone jumps in and mashes the pedal to the floor, you could break something shortening the cable too much.

If you get the butterfly in the TB to open fully when the pedal is on the floor and it still doesn't have enough go for you, remember.... it's a Ford, not a Ferarri.... buy a sports car or put a bigger motor in it.

Mine had about 1/2" and I left ~1/4" of slack. I suppose if you wanted to get technical about what lil_blue said, you could always throw a voltmeter on the TPS.

u can dremel out the tps holes to allow it to rotate, set the tps to .96-.98v and it will be a huuge difference in throttle response, mid range power, and help out a little on the mpg side

It dont matter how much you lift on the pedal ADMS08 Just add one or two zip ties and you'll be good. I did it to the 93 and it helped alot.

Not necissarily... my girlfriends pontiac was literally to the floor, when you pushed on the gasitwould go down maybe an inch and she couldn't get past 70 usually. Had to use like 6 large zip ties to counter it... now its almost perfect, when you push all the way down it just opens fully.

This is not about regular old "get up and go". This is about my seeming inability to get up anything with more incline than a wheelchair ramp without being in 3rd and putting the pedal through the floor.
