I just performed the throttle cable mod on my 95 4x4 4.0 5spd. The Difference is like night and day. I had noticed from the start, when I bought the truck July of 2010 that the gas pedal was really close to the floor, but I didnt give it much thought. The truck had always seemed gutless, a struggle to make it to 55 on the on ramp with the foot to the floor still in third gear.
The last ranger I had owned was a 93 4.0 2wd auto and it seemed to have a lot more spunk than this truck. I searched with this drive train combo because I like to be able to control the shift points, and was pissed because it seemed so gutless even with the 5 speed.
Like I said earlier, thank god for the cable mod, I am tempted to buy a new throttle cable for piece of mind. But for now it feels like having another 100 horsepower. My new treadwrights have it cut out for em now!
