I'm thinking of ordering a new '08 Ranger Sport in the spring. Why order? Mainly, I can't find a 4.0L V6 with a 5-speed manual. I have a dealer checking to see if he can get it, but the wish catalog says I can get it.
Here's what I want:
Extended cab
2x4
4.0L V6 OHC
5-speed manual trans
4.10 limited slip rear
A/C
cloth buckets
rubber floor
bright blue metallic paint
grey cloth interior.
If I can get this, it should be a fun truck to drive!! :headbang:

90% positive that you can't get 4.10 gear with a 2wd truck. At least in Canada you can't. Seems the manual trans is somewhat rare with the 4.0l in '08. I looked.

Unless I have missed something, it appears as if an FX4 with a manual is no longer going to be available either. I attempted to build an 08' FX4 online, and it made mention of that transmission option being of limited availability. Why are so many options vanishing?

It sounds like they are using up available stock before they pull the plug.

Lease is up on my Sport Trac in January. I'm going back and forth between keeping it or ordering a 3.0/manual Ranger 4x4 to save on gas.
The power is nice but it costs a lot to operate.

You aren't kidding. My 06' F150 (5.4 V8)'s gas mileage isn't much different than my 05' Ranger's.

When is the end coming? Has anyone heard about future plans for the truck?

They are closing the plant at the end of model year '08, Ford has not said if they are moving production of the current truck to another plant or if they are going to introduce a replacement built at another plant. For the way they are pulling back on the options list it isn't looking too good for the current truck imo.

I went on-line and found out I cant get the 4.10's in a 2wd. Bummer!! I might consider a 4x4, but it might be a waste of money here in Michigan. We don't get the volume of snow that we used to.
If I stay with the 2x4, the 3.55's will be ok, I guess. I still don't know if I actually will get one or not. I did find one used 4x4 with everything I want, so that may be an option as well.

It shouldn't cost that much to get a dealer to swap gears in the rear...

Manuals have been getting to be a special order for quite a time now. For the rear end, I just found a 8.8", 10" brakes, 4.10 gears with 9K miles on it in a local yard for $250. Got to be less than what a dealer would do it for.
Drg racr - You've just put the curse on us up here with way too much snow for this year!

Can't get a 3.0L in 4x4. Not in Canada anyways.
