I am thinking about painting my truck. I think it looks fine the way it is but I guess the rust and stuff should be stopped before it starts eating the metal...
I don't want to do a rattle can job so when i decide what colors to get i am probably gonna need some help on what to do. I think i have the basics down on what to do but what equipment will i need to paint apart from sanders spray guns and stuff. but what brand would you recommend. I have pictures here.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2705820
I am thinking of a metallic black where the blue is and dark silver or some color on the white or a deeper metallic blue and dark silver line. and possibly change the line to somewhere else. i don't know yet but any help would be appriciated. hoping to acomplish it for under 1,000. I would just take it to the shop but up here the manager said that even if i did all of the body work and priming my self it would still cost about 5,000 and i don't want to take it to macco for a crap job. and i know they do crap jobs because we had an old 1992 or 5 dodge dynasty that got hit by a speeding driver and the paint flaked and faded in less than a year.

You should be able to get it done for alot less that $5000 if you do the prep work.

Metallic black or really dark grey solid with a lighter grey bottom would look really good, every once in awhile I see a FX4 F-150 with that scheme (black w/ dark grey trim and red pinstripe)

do a search on the net for "fifty dollar paint job"

eh, if he doesn't want a rattlecan job he won't want that either.

I suggest going on Amazon.com and getting yourself some books on bodywork and painting.

i have decided on my colors i think? it is gonna be Metallic Black and Dark Metallic Midnight Blue and a Silver Stripe. I want to paint it like the TRS Ranger because it is the the same body style and stuff. The Black will go on top and the blue on the bottom with a silver stripe about an inch or two seperating them. now i just got to find the time equipment and money for paint and stuff.

Don't write off rattle can just yet. I started experimenting about a month ago with rattle cans and you can get to a factory looking paint job with manual labor and a small outlay of cash. I know it's hard to believe but true.

I did not intend on repainting the lower part of my two tone truck but after finding some surface rust underneath I had to do something about it. Let me know if you are interested....

If you want to get it done cheap, your going to have to devote time to learn, some wasted materials and some excessive wet sanding of dirt and orange peel. Do not put a Run in the finish coat, It will not come out entirely.
Dont waste your time on a "deal" paint job, If you do find it you wont be satisfied, by then its too late. Poor paint jobs ruin cars!
The key is to find a paint supplier that can supply you with Must have information like MSDS sheets on the materials. These sheets will have the all of the essential information that you willl need, from the air pressure needed, mix ratio's , drying times, and fluid tip size for your spray equipment, as welll as the hazardous materials info.
I have used several different spray guns, from expensive to cheap. For all your doing, the cheap one will do just fine. Expect to pay between 80 to 100 $ for a cheap one. You can probably use it on 2 or 3 cars before its junk. Keep it clean, especially with activated primers.
If you have any other questions I can give you some pointers, I am certified with PPG finishes, but currently use BASF / RM finishes at my shop.

:iamwithstupid: i recently did that to my explorer and it looks great!! i used 6 cans of krylon and the patterns off the site and it turned out great, its like driving a whole new vehicle!!
