The Side x Side Compromise!

You could go smaller still, to get even closer to the SxS experience, for $10k you could buy a 90's Geo Tracker, gut it, put a roll cage in it, a 4 point harness, bucket seats, aggressive tires, trim the fenders, remove all the glass, add some light bars... and have money left over. You'd need major suspension work to get it to handle as well as a side by side at speed, though.

For what I do a Ranger or Bronco 2 would work just fine. Was never impressed with Geo, or any of those golf carts. Prices on them around here are ridiculous because people buy them and do exactly what you are talking about so of course sellers think they're worth something when in reality they're just garbage until you throw a ton of money into them to get them to actually get out of their own way LOL. I don't drive down very tight trails so a compact pickup works fine, I used to take my Jeep Grand Cherokee down these same trails the B2 is a bit narrower so its not as hard on the paint LOL.

For the money though I'd spend it on an actual truck before I would waste that much money on a SxS that you can only use in certain areas in many towns, plus have another vehicle to register and insure. I've been down that road, and the only thing I miss the SxS for is chores on the property and it wasn't worth the money to do that with.

Tearing out the front of the 94

The Radiator and fan look like they took most of the damage

Looking to buy a Chilton or Haynes manual, anyone know which one to buy that shows the best detail? I'm leaning towards Chilton because I haven't owed a Haynes manual before. Also where to get the best deal?

edit: I found a shop manual set. I don't know what I should pay for them. any ideas on what they are worth?

Around $150 on Ebay I think.

You would probably be ok with just an EVTM for both trucks, I just got one for my '85 for $16 off Ebay.

I do plan on getting a shop manual ($40-50) for mine just to have it, I don't see much point to the emissions one for myself.

Might check out used book stores too, I was at Half Priced Books last night and they had two Chiltens and two Haynes for like $7 a pop. So far for the last 16 years my Haynes has gotten me where I need to go.

If I were you I'd pull the complete drivetrain from the B2, swap in the manual transfer at the very least, and swap the manual if you want. The 2.9 is a very reliable engine and when they run good they scream, so since you already have a spare, I'd wait on a 4.0 swap.

I pulled the BW1350, I'll get it cleaned up for when I build the Doubler with the newer ranger BW1354.

Thanks for the info! I'll keep an eye out for a better deal. I got some more done today. I pulled the clutch pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder.

I also pulled the doors for future half door project. I'm also considering pulling the seats if I can find factory blue seat covers.

Do you guys think I pulled everything I'll need from this bronco? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If it were me, I would pull any switches and sensors that are compatible and seem decent - headlight switch (looks like you may have gotten that one) multi-function switch?, heater/Air controls, fuse panels, brake switch, wiring harness connectors, etc.

What about lock cylinders/ignition switch. That would give you a whole matching set for free.

Parking brake pedal assembly. I had one wear out on my F150, years ago.

I would fill a couple Rubbermaid totes with anything that might cost more than $5 to replace.

Of course, it depends how much room you have for spare parts inventory.

I did pull a lot of the stuff you mentioned, great minds...

except the headlight switch... I broke it.

I'm selling the 1994 ranger for parts. There's a buyer for the exhaust system and I'm not sure if the exhaust from my 87' Ranger 2.9 will fit directly to the 4.0 OHV. If they are interchangeable, how much would you guys price a complete system. The 87' has a new system that's a few years old, so I would like to use that system unless the stock 94' system is better.

abaryth's conversion exhaust source that I found.

Compare the sizes of the pipe, 4.0 may be bigger.

New ones are not bad at parts stores but I would be hesitant to sell the y-pipe until I knew I didn't need it.

Small update guys. Got the engine pulled and will start the tear down/clean up. I bought a canopy for $80 that's in pretty good shape, and will get pics up tomorrow of that.
