The new ranger I saw was this:

Why would Ford make such a dramatic change to the Ranger after quitting US sales?
Also, what makes it illegal in the states?

Ummmmmm, let me see, ........because they're stupid????

If that had ever come on sale here I would have had one in the drivewan and the garage.

Now as far as being illegal, thats not quite true. Its about meeting the emissions and crash test standards here. If the truck never went into production here, there is no way to prove it meets the crash standards. Then most vehicles overseas have very little in the way of emissions controls.

But it is not impossible to import one, Just costly.
Check out this link to the gov website about it....
http://cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/basic_trade/importing_car.xml

You CAN do it if you have the right documentation and enough $$$$$.
I know this because I have been looking at it for a while now.
So do I build a hot rod or import a new Ranger from Brazil:icon_confused:

Everytime I see this truck it makes my heart race, but not enough to spend $80 grand to have one here. $80 grand would build one hell of a truck or hot rod.

Uh, that's incredibly old news there bud... The global ranger has always had that gay look Europeans love so much.....

The reason is most likely crash standards.

There are others, such as importation fees depending on country and product.

As for Importing a vehicle into the U.S., well, you'd have to wait a bit. I think it's something like 25 years or older and you can import them with little problem. It is possible to import newer ones, but it'd literally be easier to just build something comparable already in the U.S.

Otherwise, they need to meet a few guidelines such as lighting, I think there's something with the hood latch (most cars have acceptable styles). Of course Emissions. And you do have to crash at least one. Yup, even the Nissan R-34 Skyline, they had to buy one, and crash it, in order to import one into the U.S. *sheds a tear*. I'm sure there's a bit more to this, but I've never imported a vehicle, sooo...

could you buy a body to one and put it on a ranger frame from an older one

^^^What he said 1 million times over and over again. Yes, this Ranger has been out for some time now. The American Ranger is gone and the overseas Ranger has been sold overseas for several years now.THIS IS OLD NEWS AND WE DON'T CARE!!!!!

if ford would have updated the us ranger in a way comparable to say.. toyota, thats what it would have looked like. but ford chose the route of doing only minor changes (minor compared to other pickups in the us market)

I personally didn't think the Ranger needed much change. Only thing would of been had they offered a V8 version and maybe a quad cab version too. That is just my lone opinion thought!

Ive said this before, but one of the guys down a few miles from me mixed a ranger and quad cab s10 together and got a quad cab ranger.

That truck is 9/10s the size of an F150. Why would they sell it here when we already have F150s? Other countries don't have F150s, so they use Rangers instead. If Ford wants to sell a Ranger in the US, it needs to stay a compact truck.

very very very true, by the way, did they ever make a diesel F150?

Google it. See what you can find.

I like my US Ranger and wouldn't trade up. Just wish there were less costly ways to mod my 2005 fx4
