It was tragic today. 3 Ford owners in a parking lot. Only one knew what to do. (Me)

We've gotten quite a bit of snow here in the last few days. Nothin too deep, but we just keep gettin it and it melts and we get more.

Today at school a kid in a Probe slid into a gard rail entering the parking lot at my school. Another kid in an Explorer stopped to tow him out. I pull up.

The tow hook is wrapped around the radiator of the probe, and around the explorers ball hitch. They're about to try it when I started beating on the windows.

I had to grab my strap, crall under the probe and hook it to the frame in a secure spot. Then I had to teach the explorer driver how to use 4low.

It saddened me deeply.

We got the probe out, and only minor damage. Giant scratch along the door and fenders, broken mirror, and the rear lights are toast. I'll have pictues tomorrow.

BUT STILL! How could some one not know how to use 4low? And how could they think the thin little radiator would be a great anchor spot???

Once again, my heart is weaping.

And the day before, another friend in an Exploder was doin some doughnuts and he hit a curb and busted the tire off teh bead. They call me up in class to go changer their tire cause they cant figure out how to jack it up and get the spare out. Wtf?

He drilled the curb pretty hard too. Bent his rim and busted a lug nut clean off. Damn

How could people be so ignorant?

to most of us here its common sense, but to alot of people knowing how to work on the truck is on the bottom of the to-do list.

But i mean, a spare tire? Every one should know how to change a flat

I usually think it's funny to hear people say they "know how to work on trucks" and then find out they don't know how to change a tire. Working on a vehicle is a little bit more involved than driving through the carwash and hanging a giant keychain from the mirror...

I feel and share your pain. It is truely sad when people don't understand even their own vehicle. I work as a mechanic and if anyone person needs help, they get me.

I had a lady that didn't even know how to fill up her tires. But at least she did know that light on her dash meant the tires were low. Owner's Manual, its a great book, take the time to read it sometime.

i learned w/old ratchet style jack on the gravel roads of monroe county, iowa.i was 16 at the time.jacks haven't improved much over the years but them old jacks were dangerous.young adults need to learn from those who know, where are the parents?

yah up here in alaska it is surprising to see how many people can't drive in the winter or change tires or any thing not towing not nothing. But suprisingly also most of them drive POS's that will need all of that. I pull out like 3 or 4 people a week because they get stuck in the school parkinglot.

It's just this day of age. It's sad to be honest. A girl I work with dosn't know how to air up her tires and she was pretty much riding on her rim. I put air in her tire real quick and give it back to her. A few days later, I tell her the tire is low once again and she should go to Firestone or Goodyear and see if there's a nail in it. She starts freaking out like it the end of the world. She dosn't listen and rides the tire off the rim a few days later. Her idiot boyfriend puts the spare on and dosn't put on 2 lug nuts. Fast forward to 2 later (3 weeks ago). She's driving drunk, it's raining and she answers her phone. Then SMACK right into a Jiffy Lube.

That's how stupid people are. I love the ones who talk on the phone, drive and speed when it's raining.

In a minor way, these posts remind me how this nation is a shadow of it's former self........

I need to hang out here. There's so much to learn.

BUT STILL! How could some one not know how to use 4low?

You have no idea how many 4x4 trucks and SUV's come to the shop because they are "stuck in 4low". Somehow the drivers get the transfer case into 4low but can't get it back to high range. And none of them have read the owner's manual. NONE !!!

My favorite is the people that drive their vehicles with no fluids in it. I have an 01 Audi A4, 00 Mazda MPV, and 98 Subaru in my shop right now that need engines. The Audi owner hit a rock and cracked open the oil pan and just kept driving (low oil light on) until it stopped running. The Mazda and Subi ran out of coolant and also drove until it went BANG!. Keeps the shop busy so I can't complain.
