Not bad with open sights and no spotter! Those targets are pretty small and it is hard to make corrections when you don't know where your point of impact is. I love being spotter and watching the round arc downrange.

That's true. I really need a spotting scope. 300 yards is a long walk in the trenches to get to the target just to check 5 round groups...

Here are a few of mine, both at 100 yards from a rest testing loads:
First is a Ruger M77V 220 Swift.

This one is a Win. 70 heavy barrel in 300mag.

I've made one hole groups with the 220 pretty regularly and I have a 308 that is more accurate than either. I love to shoot!

That is also really cool watch someone with a compound bow making a long shot (30-40yds) with the sound of the arrow slicing thru the air.

Those are good shot groups, I dont care who you are or whos gun your shooting or who its sighted for, If you cant match up two sights and put the rounds in the size of a dime like that there, you cant shoot. (referring to rifles of course and the proper zero range)

I can do that with my gamo pellet gun at 17 yds which give me a two inch rise drop, so zeroed for 60 yds.

If you caint see daylite thru his chest before he hits the ground.......they ain't grouped close enough.........

Hey Duster, was that back home at the Dewey range? Last time I was there they had a shoot-out going on at the 600 yd range with pistols. Buddy let me shoot his 7mm Mag, knew it was going go kick so I flinched big time and blew dirt all over another buddy in the trench.

This was at the Marathon county Duane L. Corbin shooting range (just outside of Mosinee). This range is also setup to shoot at 600, but that area is only for matches and special occasions since they have to close off the trap range for it. They had a match shoot at 600 yards that day too, but I think they were sharps rifles or something of the sort.

I'm working my way up to 600 yards once I get these rifle's sights figured out and dialed in. I've never really played with the sights because they all do fine at 100 yards without adjustments. But I'm really getting into long range shooting with open sights...military style.

Last time I was there, there was some guys next to me shooting a scoped rifle (some newer manufactured one) at 100 yards and all over the paper. Then they saw me shooting nice groups with open sights at 100 and were amazed. They also thought my springfield was a cannon. I wonder what they would have thought this time...

Not to mention, people always stop and look at my rifles.

I love going down in the trenches to change targets too. Bullets flying overhead and hitting the backstop next to you. It's quite an experience.

We used to have a metal deer set up at 400 yards. I used to love to go out and watch people shoot at it. Hardly anyone could hit it while I'd be calling my shots. "OK, tip of the nose." BANG! My spotter would call "Hit!" "Extended foreleg, Hit!" It was a good time.

I picked it up yesterday when I got the second 1/4 of a collection I just bought. That's how much I paid for the rifle. It was in that rifle case in the basement for quite some time...no evidence it ever saw rust either. That basement must have been pretty dry.

The second section of the collection I bought was a bunch of random things. Anything from old war photos, rations booklets, flags, and a ww1 1914 map, to a sign from inside the detroit tank arsenal. A bunch of random and very cool stuff. I'll post some pics one of these days.

Probably one of the coolest pictures i've ever seen. This was part of the collection I got.

It's a photo from 1918. It's in it's original frame too. Captions on the bottom read:

Another day at the range! Got the springfield adjusted better at 300 yards, and tried the AR15 at 300 for the first time. Shot about 60+ rounds a piece, 30-06 and 5.56. The springfield kicked my shoulders ass today after over 60 rounds of 1942 ww2 mil surp. Will have more pics later tonight.

I did that with a sporterized 8mm Mauser. I so regretted it the next day!
