Tell me about your state.

When my kids graduate, Vanessa and I want to move to northeast Tennessee and leave Ohio. Ohio has a lot of entertainment and I always loved growing up in greater Cleveland, but I like the country settings better.

When we move to northeast Tennessee, we will be able to make an easy weekend trip to Hazard Kentucky, Windrock (Coal Creek) or Tellico. Plus you have the Smokey Mountain attractions. It will also put me close to Bristol to see some NHRA or or NASCAR racing.

Washington? Heck, even James Duff left Washington to move to Tennessee.

I got family in tennessee I love it down there, reminds me I need to take a trip down there again sometime.

July of 2009 would be a good time......

Tennessee sure is nice. I just cannot deal with the prices for land. Plus, more and more people are moving there and biulding homes in once nice areas.

I could tell you how nice northern California is, but you wouldn't believe me and I don't want anybody else moving here anyways. So yeah... go to Montana or something :thefinger: Seriously though, I almost wish I wouldn't have grown up here so I wouldn't know what I'd be missing if I decided to move. I don't know where the hell I'd move if I left. The PNW is beautiful in most places. If I went anywhere it would probably be north. I couldn't deal with the heat /humidity of the south. Good luck on finding the right place for you and yours, it's not going to be an easy decision :icon_thumby:

Pffft. Alaska. People say Hawaii is paradise. They are quite wrong. I live in paradise. If outside and wilderness are your things, there is nowhere else like it. I could literally walk out my back door at any time, across a 1 acre city park, across a remote section of Ft. Richardson and right into Chugach State park (much bigger than many NP's). I could spend the rest of my life never seeing another human being if I chose and I live on the edge of the largest city in the state!

Texas is Alaska's bitch. Split Alaska in half and Texas would be the third largest state with enough land left over for another Minnesota.

If you want to see a fence, you will have to go and look for it. Everything is wide open. Access is a bit of an issue as the terrain is quite rugged but well worth the effort.

If you can legally own a firearm, you can carry it concealed. There are no state taxes. There is no sales tax. We receive a Permanent Fund check every year just for living here. We have more mountains, more coast line, more lakes, more glaciers than anywhere else you could go. It is paradise. The wheeling is great and the flying is better.

Colorado and Wyoming are my second choices. Both are awesome places. Those pics of the Moffat Rail bed and Rawlins Pass bring back memories. Wasn't too long ago you could drive all the way through to Winter Park on that trail. Lots of good wheeling in CO.

I thought they instituted a low state wide sales tax a few years back? It could been just a bureau wide tax in Kodiak, though I forget. And what's the PFD like these days? When I left it was looking pretty bad.

well ohio, what is there to say....
We have lake Eerie, Ceder Point, and... 99% of the state is in a cult of OSU worship. If you want people to show up to a function tell them that it is an osu theme and they will be there. Want people to give blood? tell them that they'll get a free osu blanket if they give blood, they give a gallon right there.
We have a lot of good hunting for white tail, and ground hogs. weird combo right. Oh and we have what has to be some of the worst drivers in the country. People don't use their turn singles, they don't yield properly. Yet magically as soon as you cross out of the state people instantly become better drivers. DOn't know what it is about the state, weird.

But hey its home

Don't move to Minnesota.

i have seen a very small part of Ohio. I did like what I saw though.

What is the PFD?

I am having a hard time keeping up with all this information. Maybe I should start a list of state that I will not move to. That might help.

TN is nice, we have family there. i just do not like the cost of land.

CO is soem place I have always wanted to see. If the trails are not being clsoed like I have heard, then it is still a possibility. What about the gun laws?

OR is a place I want to see very badly, but the lack of jobs is a concern. Not to mention the tree huggers. How are the cops paid?

AR is some place I ahve not thought much about. WHat are the land prices like?

i live in NE arkansas. its a good place if you want to be close to TN (i'm about 45 minutes from memphis). but its mostly flat land. NW arkansas has the ozarks. hot springs is more south-west, and i'd like to live there eventually.

in my area, i bought (about 2 years ago) a (2004 build) 1100 sq ft, 3 bed, 1.5 bath on a little over an acre, right outside of town, for around $74,000. not sure about (per acre) land prices, it'll vary from place-to-place.

oh yeah, you can get a CCW pretty easy.

I cannot believe I forgot this on my list.

I want to live in a biker friendly state as well. I have a cruiser and I will have and R1 by the time I get home. I would prefer a state that does not have a helmet law.

lots of rallies around here. eureka springs is a do-able drive, lots of people around here go up there for rallies as well. my personal feelings about helmet laws aside, we don't have a helmet law. i see yuppies in shorts, flip-flops, and a baseball cap, riding crotch rockets all day long. but lots of every type of bike here. harleys, cruisers, customs, goldwings, etc....

thats cool. between james duff, quite a few rbv owners, and the other attractions of E TN, i really need to take a vacation out there sometime (Tellico is about a 500 mile drive for me, not too bad)

No helmet or handlebar laws in CO(I just got my endorsement this last sumer). I can find out about how the PD's are paid when my wife gets home on sat. She works across the lobby from them)

What is the weather like in Arkansas

it varies really, but overall pretty mild. i've seen it up to 100 F in summer, but its not all the time. in winter, it'll get down to the teens at night sometimes, but the days are warm enough that snow wont stick (if it snows) for more than a day. if you get up into the mountains, you'll get some good snow.

basically, i have lived in northern NY (about 20 miles from the canadian border), and south texas (outside san antonio). i've seen both temperature extremes. arkansas is a happy medium.
