No Visible Room for starter R&R on a 96 Explorer 4.0L OHV W/ Auto Trans
96 Explorer 4.0 OHV Auto trans.
To make a long story short, coolant leak at the lower intake & head gasket, heads too costly to rework, $300Labor + $150 for the gasket set and Bolts), during search for other heads found a 115K mile replacement engine for only $600.
Question is that when pulling the starter off the old one there was no room to pull it out from below. With the differential being right there I could not find any way to get the starter to come out the bottom.
Since I had the heads off I pulled it out the top.
Anyone familiar with this swap and the starter issue?
What is the trick to getting it back in once the new motor is set?
I've swapped other motors on older Fords & Internationals so everything else makes sense so far.
Thanks
Bill
