My ranger makes a supercharger whining sound when I give it gas. The more gas I give it the more whine I hear. I know for sure I don't have a supercharger under the hood.

What could it be? it sounds like it's the power steering but I checked my power steering fluid and it's topped off. Could it be power steering pump going bad?

ps pump, diff, tranny? could be almost anything. does it do it more when youre turning while stopped?

when i try the steering wheel it doesn't make that sound. only when i give it some gas.

break out the stethoscope............a bad iacv motor can whine!!

Could also be an exhaust leak...

it sounds like its coming from the ac compressor? How do I disconnect the ac compressor and find out for sure?

yes it is.
once u remove it u can clear the ac unit, ps pump and water pump as noise source.
check the tensioners and pulleys too.
my grandmas 3.0 was making a similar noise and it ended up being a tensioner pulley that had a dry bearing. it snapped on a road trip.

There is a lot it could be, but considering its Ford I would check the power steering pump.

It is quite likely your a/c compressor clutch. To know for (semi) sure if its that or not, run through your a/c settings at the control panel, if the whine changes in pitch or volume then you know its something in the compressor.

My ac quit working. If I turn it on the a/c compressor clutch doesn't even click on at all. How do I check to see if it's the power steering pump?

its quite likely thats why it quit working. Your clutch won't engage so it can't turn the compressor and now all its doing is spinning the pully, thus creating your whine. The power steering pump in fords does whine yes, but at cruising speed its very difficult to hear if its working correctly and the fluid is topped off..oh and if you have the right fluid haha.
