I recently got done installing my oem STX High/Sport Rider suspension that I pulled from an '89 extended cab v6 STX from the junkyard, onto my '91 2.3 4x4 short bed. Anyways the truck still sits low in the front and my 31's will rub the inner fender liner on sharp turns. My question is has anyone confirmed that you can run standard 4" lift coils with the factory lift brackets & still get the front end aligned? I'm looking at picking up a set of Sky Jacker 134 Soft Ride coils.

With adjustable camber bushings and the High Rider brackets you should be able to get the camber in spec, as getting 2.5 - 3" of lift on non-lift brackets is doable. I have about 2.5" on my truck and I have plenty of camber adjustment left.

The caster might be a little more difficult. I have seen adjustable radius arm bushings, though I've never used them. Building some extended radius arms would remedy this though.

You might also need a pitman arm with more drop, depending on how much drop that STX one has.

I have a comparison pic of stock vs stx pitman arms in my lowbuck racetruck build in my signature. Post #45. It looks like about 1 1/4" drop and 3/4" longer.

Nice truck. I need to know the same thing, people please help. Mine has the stx brackets and skyjacker 2" coils with about 3/4" of washers under the coils. It was aligned but I would like to install 4" coils instead.

A cheaper option to try lifting it up a bit further is you should be able to fit about 1" of washers under the coil on the axle, I have that setup. Go to a bolt supplier and get some raw steel 1 1/4" washers as they have the 1 3/8" hole needed to fit around the spring mount bolt/stud thing. When I got them they were under $.50 each and 1/8" thick so I have 8 on each side... I don't think Fastenall has the raw steel ones, but the other bolt companies should have something...

Thanks!

I might just go with a set of coil spacers for now and see how it looks. I'm just worried I'm gonna have to get longer brake lines since they are close to taunt at full drop as is.

I've heard that the STX drop pitman arm is pretty much the same as your average 4" lift one.

The common Suburban brake lines are an easy swap and cheap and available anywhere... you just have to pry the center support bracket off and buy a tee for the drivers side brake line (the one I found had 1/8" pipe on the male side, I used a die to thread it to 3/8"-24) I also had to convert from metric fittings at the lines to standard which just took crimping 3 new nuts on the brake lines. I think it was $20 for the hoses and maybe $5 in new nuts then $10 for the tee and took maybe an hour to adapt them.

Also with the coil spacers will you need to get longer shocks? I have brand new high rider spec Sachs Touring gas shocks on the truck in the front and it rides great with them.

Longer shocks aren't required, but your droop will likely be limited by your shocks as they will prevent the axle from dropping down.

I didn't need longer shocks when I added my coil spacers. I don't get very much flex in the front though. :icon_thumby:

I honestly think an inch of washers under the coil seat will get you fixed up, an inch of washers will lift you near 1.5" and won't cost $90...

That's interesting that there's a picture of my filthy oily frame in the tech library... someone else must have submitted my picture... not that I mind... I think that blue towel might still be on my frame, but I might have removed it when I had the engine out last time... some day I'll put new O rings on the power steering hoses...

Yeah, I found a pic of mine in the tech library too. I think I would have liked to be notified, but I also feel pleased that someone thought enough of it to use it. The way I look at it is that if we're posting on a public forum then the pic is for public use. It still would be nice to be notified...
