Ger42, Have you had the Syncro replaced? It is the remaining part of the old distributor system. I had a problem with Bucking/misfires over 3000 RPM. When cold(1st started) mis would be around 4k or more and drop as engine warmed. PS the engine will mis over 3k RPM in park/neutral due to rev limiter. There is a TSB which the clocking signal from the EGR is monitored any thing over 125 cycles up to its limit of 1050ish references a syncro problem. The issue is ford does not check for faults from the syncro over 2500 rpm. PS, I am willing to bet you get a belt squeal like sound when the engine is cold and will vary depending on driving conditions, IE stop and go no sound, highway run and then come to a stop - squeal comes back??? Signs of Syncro failure........If you are getting a belt squeal try removing belt and run for a minute if it squeals it's probably the syncro!!!
PS: no fault monitoring = No engine Codes = Nightmare to find problem
