So, the 3 newest parts on my truck are a PVC valve, Engine Coolant temperature sensor, my barometric pressure sensor and my MAF. I didn't replace them all on the same day, I got the Barometric sensor and MAF a couple months ago and the ECT and PVC about 2 weeks ago. I was trying to cut down on the number of codes my truck was throwing out and the only one that's left is the "MAF is out of range" code. But now that I put new coolant temp sensor and PCV valve, my truck struggles to move when cold, it's bogging down bad and if I give it gas to get up to highway speed, this low growly rumble emits from the engine and the RPMs start surging up and down. I'm at a loss at this point. I've heard that the 4.0 doesn't really do well with new MAFs. But idk what to try to diagnose

test your temp sensor and your new maf. the sensor will be easy as it should just test with a multimeter. it should read a certain range at cold and than when warm.

and, does your engine have a sensor that runs the gage and another sensor that actually tells the ecu the engine temp? and maybe you swapped hte wrong one? sometimes one is called a sensor and the other is called a sender.

the maf will usually also be tested with a multimeter and you check for changes in resistance at different rpm points or something like that

Yeah, mine has a sender and a sensor. But the sender has what looks like a little screw thing for a plug in that goes to my gauge and the sensor for the computer has an actual electrical plug in connector on the end. It took me a week to find out that they were different things. My thing is, my check engine light is on when I'm giving it little amounts throttle or idling, sometimes it'll switch on and off when I'm idling at a stop light when the truck is warm and stuff. And never goes on when I'm going highway speeds.

maybe you have a loose connection on one of hte plugs on the stuff you ahve changed and its giving that light on/off deal.

you know what? i wonder if your new maf is really the issue? do you ahve to original one and can swap to test if the symptoms change?

Nah, I tossed it. I was also wondering if I bought a defective MAF or it just really dirty really quickly

i am wondering if its defective.

is there anyone around you with a 4.0 that you can try swapping the maf? maybe form an explorer even?
