starter flywheel problems

my fly wheel keeps getting chewed by the starter I have replaced it 4 times now and have ran out of ideas the shimming is fine of it is fine its like the teeth need to be bigger I cant understand how please help :icon_thumby:
 
Is it a 2.9? I had the same problem with mine, I ended up putting a Ford escort starter gear on it, and haven't a problem since. Disregard, I didn't see 4.0l forum

if you have a manual trans make sure you are not using an automatic starter as it may not fully disengage from the flywheel.
 
Also, make sure that if you are having chewing issues you replace the starter and flywheel together. If one is damaged it will take out the other.
