i have a 94 ranger xlt, 2wd, 5-speed. replaced the clutch disk 2 months ago and been having problems since. the clutch pedal seem to low, it stalls the engine when i start accelerating. i have to step on the pedal until floored and wait until i rev above 1500rpm before releasing the pedal. also, the truck vibrates then stalls when i start moving in an inclined surface moving upwards. this wasn't happening before we replaced the clutch disk. need help...

Let me get this started.it sounds like the release bearing/slave cylinder might not be working properly. Did you need to/have to bleed the clutch. Are you sure the install was correct. The clutch face was in correct direction the pp was line up properly. You match the parts up so the new ones were correct. What parts did you replace

i replaced the clutch disk and the pressure plate, everything was correctly installed. i have yet to replace the release bearing as suggested by a mechanic. fluid is okay too.

But, doesn't that mean you have to pull the tranny again?

My 1993 4-cyl 5-speed took FOREVER to bleed it.
Try again...

sounds like you have air in the system, that's the only reason that the pedal would be that far down...

i checked my truck today and found the clutch fluid reservoir empty. checked under the truck but no signs of leak. i guess that's the reason why the pedal was too low, but what's causing the reservoir empty? the last time we bled the system everything seemed okay...i think i really need to pull down the tranny.

did you replace the slave cylinder while you had the trans out before?

i didn't replace the slave cylinder. i put fluid yesterday and checked the reservoir today, it's still full. i'll check it after new year and see if it drains again. if it won't, should i bleed the system again or just pull out the tranny and check the slave cylinder? no leaks at the master cylinder either.

now i could have sworn i already replied to this post? maybe not? oh well.. i'll say it again

the clutch release system will NOT causing stalling and running problems.

you have a running problem that you need to check out. what engine? does this problem happen cold? hot? all the time? how is the idle?

one thing that comes to mind is the O2 sensor plugs that bolt to the top of the trans, did you get them plugged back in?

did you knock any vacuum lines loose?

When you bleed the clutch make sure to take the black rubber out of the reservior, its not gunna bleed if you dont:P nobody told me that one, also what I did was took the reservoir off and just keep slowly pushing the pedal and tapping the master cylinder to get the air out, took about 5 mins.

the electrical connectors FOR the o2 sensors.. sorry if i worded that a little confusing.

the bracket bolts to the top right trans mounting bolt. then the plugs are attached to this bracket.. meaning you HAVE to take these off to remove the transmission. and in most cases you HAVE to remove the exhaust to remove the transmission. therefore disconnecting these 2 plugs

You replaced a clutch disc without changing out the slave cylinder? That I don't understand. Always replace the entire clutch assembly including the flywheel to prevent having to pull the tranny again.
Being cheap will always come back to bite you.

from research Z have done it seems that the raybestos slave cylinder is one of the better ones to use...... there are peeps on these websites that replace the salve everytime the trann is ulled.even if it was replace 6 months before.....

actually, i use wagner slave cylinders, why? i get a discount on em.
