I'm not suprised by the idea of a Euro ranger here. Alan Mullaly has been pretty aggressive in his "why the f*** have 2-3 platforms for esssentially the same car" philosophy, hence the next US focus being based on the successful euro platform. Sometime it works, like when mazba b-series and rangers shared platforms, and sometimes it doesnt - contour/mystique anyone? We'll have to wait and see. The thing to consider that out of over 6 BILLION people in the world, there only about 330 million (last I heard anywho) in the US population. That makes the US about 5-6% of the world population. Do we REALLY need to be that special? Look at GM.. most of their profit that they did make recently was all overseas. Its no secret the explorer is likely going unibody, so then what platform would the ranger share anyways? The ranger platform hs been going strong about as long as the crown vics but EPA ratings and crash regulations are making difficult for our trucks to compete. Do I wanna swap my 1999 for that? Hell no, but in a collision, all the modern side airbags and structural reinforcements might be nice, not to mention the thoguht of a truck that can break 20MPG even if i'm not friendly to the skinny pedal. CAFE will kill trucks as we know it I think, and youll see more Honda Ridgeline type things coming out.
