Spy shots of a 2012 ranger.


I like the black honeycombe grill, but I just can't make myself like circle headlights on a truck. If i could have a black honeycombe grill on my 99 i would, but i think i'd need a new "powerbulge" hood or whateverer its called. I think I'd rather have my lower hood though.
 
their turning it into the frontier front end n making it like the explorer suv-truck..its ugly as shit, i love the 2000 to 08 look..

The "Spy photos" are of a drivetrain test mule.

The body is just patched together to put a body on the chassis. If I remember right the front end is off of a Mazda SUV. Note the oval in the grille isn't quite the right proportions for the Ford oval.
 
the second pic looks like they put a bed and 4 doors on a taurus sho. somebody should get fired.
 
Why the hell do people think those wacko curved headlights look good? They look like shit, bring back square/rectangular headlights!
 
i need to toss a camera in my truck. i see things like this all the time where i live. There is a ford facility, transmission assembly and a whole host of other out buildings with names like 'non destructive testing' and what not. i could swear i've seen something very close to that buzzing around the streets here.
 
Look at GM.. most of their profit that they did make recently was all overseas. Its no secret the explorer is likely going unibody, so then what platform would the ranger share anyways? The ranger platform hs been going strong about as long as the crown vics but EPA ratings and crash regulations are making difficult for our trucks to compete. Do I wanna swap my 1999 for that? Hell no, but in a collision, all the modern side airbags and structural reinforcements might be nice, not to mention the thoguht of a truck that can break 20MPG even if i'm not friendly to the skinny pedal. CAFE will kill trucks as we know it I think, and youll see more Honda Ridgeline type things coming out.

GM failed DOMESTICALLY..... thats why pontiac and saturn were KILLED but Saab was SOLD and Opel was nearly SOLD - they were the only assets worth anything. I'm not defending GM at all, but I'm saying we will see some drastic changes in the automotive industry in the next few years. With Ford killing mercury and possibly lincoln, you can't say that FoMoCo's mojo is the strongest either.
 
All they're doing is killing a useless brand... you can buy a ford and you get the same thing as you would if you were buying a mercury, its just stupid to have that extra brand around.
 
That's based on the F150, my brother-in-law told me. I sent your photos to him. He works at Ford (30+ years). He said the Ranger is going away real soon.
 
I just can't fathom why they'd kill somehting profitable. Pretty soon there won't be any compact trucks and everything will be the size of a dakota. A colorado is bigger than an S10. If i wanted a box thatd haul 4x8 sheets of plywood and had a v8 i wouldnt have bought a ranger in the first place....

Exactly my sentiments as well.
The Ranger is the perfect size right now, only thing it needs is a bit of freshening. I definitely would not buy something like that bloated-out looking thing pictured at the beginning of this thread just to haul a couple bicycles or something around either.
 
I dont' understand why Ford wants to kill the Ranger. Even GM (the marketing geniuses they are) has stated they're looking to bring back the S-10, because it's a smaller, more fuel efficient truck.
