Sportrac axle in Ranger?

I have a 2005 ranger with an open diff rear end 8.8 and 4.10 gear.
My buddy had a spare axle out of a sportrac will it fit on the Ranger?
The numbers on his axle are s663a 4L10 88 OE04

If I just want to swap out my open diff for the lsd diff can I do that? Will the axle shafts fit?

sport trac is the same as an explorer so it would be 31 spline, and your ranger is 28 spline so no the axle it self is not interchangeable, but you can swap the entire rear.

no solid axle in the back, its an explorer sport basically.

Newer ones (2006 and up I believe) have IRS. Before that they had a solid axle.

Pretty sure you will need to flip the spring perches on that for it to fit a Ranger (spring-under). Once that's done, it should fit. You'll need to weld shock brackets on it too.
It is also an inch wider, overall.

He didn't specify the year so i just remembered the one in the shop. I laughed at it. IRS for a supposed truck? People wonder why Ford is a laughing stock in the worldwide auto market. It'll change though.

no exporer/sport trac, 31 spline axles, ranger is 27 spline or 28 i forget.

are you wheeling with this truck? either way if you got the other rear for free or cheap i would throw that in first before putting money into the ranger axle.

Its only a 4X2 and I will be driving in harsh winter, snowy conditions so thats why I want the LSD. I didnt get the other one for free I just have a friend who has it from a salvage truck so it would be cheap but not sure on a price yet.

well then try to find a ranger lsd from a wrecked truck, you have to check but i think alot of the mustang limited slips will fit into the ranger 8.8.
