I have an 86 ranger with 2.9L V-6 . I was changing the plugs yesterday and all was well until I got to the last one. Isnt that the way it always works? How do you get the plug on the passenger side rear position out? Do you have to go under the vehicle? I am not sure I can even get my hand up there enough to get a wrench on it because of tha big bulge covering the A/C works at the firewall. I have new wires to install but I dont want to change only 5. Any help is appreciated Thanks:icon_confused:

I always used a knuckle to get to that one. I have since gutted the ac and that black box it plugs into and now there is plenty of room.:headbang:

dont mean to sound stupid but whats a knuckle other than the ones for each finger. I have never heard of one

Use a universal/swivel to get at it.

I thought thats what it may be. just never heard of knuckle. But , I cant even a socket anywhere near the plug. Is there an access thru the fender or do I go at it from under the truck?

Lol, yes a knuckle is a swivel thats what we called them on the farm as they lool like a knuckle. Any way i'm pretty sure you cant do it from under the vehicle, You might be able to get to from the fender but that will require a bit of work.

I would use the (swivel and or find someone with small hands to get the socket wrench on there, it can be done. I think you can only turn the wrench about a 1/4 - 1/2 at a time with out the swivel.

Access in splash guard

"redxlt",

I cut a small access in the fender apron slpash gaurd, I still removed the left wheel until I added a body lift though. I can get in there now because headers make more room too but I can reach in there under the fender apron also.:icon_cheers:

Swivels here in the South are called swivels . Ratchets are called knuckle busters. Thus the confusion. I thought maybe there way a special wrench for removing the plugs
