Soul crushed and seeking advice on starting problems

So... i just listened to it.

Typical misalignment is more of a screech when the starter engages the ring gear. That screech is what grinds the teeth down... and ruins your day.

I didn't hear that. I heard a bind... or some high current draw... on the first attempt. The second attempt didn't sound half bad... it almost started.

It's hard to tell not being there and only that sound bite.

I'm in a room with my older brother and one of my nephews.
We all think that the first cranking sound, sounds like the starter isn't getting enough power and binding at the same time.

The second one seems like it's just a little off and kind of binding but not really binding a lot. Just enough binding to cause problems.

All three of us have heard it and agreed that it's a bind and not enough power.

Actually it did start on the second attempt :)

Okay heck yeah, then hopefully now with the new cables and such I just need to figure out why it's binding up a little bit.
Also I forgot to mention this battery is less than a year old. It's an 850 CCA from 8/25

I was thinking starter bind.

It's not loose is it?

Internal binding of the starter... worn bushings.

It is a used starter, so internal wear wouldn't be crazy.
Not loose, feels solid to my hand with no movement whatsoever.

I have looked up starter rebuilds before.. looks like a PITA, but I think doable.
Is it likely to cause a problem if it's driven like that for a couple weeks?

I've driven it a couple days in a row now which is helping to remind me of what little things it needs from me. (And honestly, I kinda just want to. It makes me smile)

If it was me and I had some money to put into it, I would try to find a starter rebuilding specialist shop and take it to them.

The first thing I would do once I found a starter rebuilding and or electronics specialist, is just ask questions. And see if they can give me some knowledge.
Then after having asked them questions the last question I would ask them is,
How much they would charge me to take the starter I have on it off and either rebuild it or put a new starter or a that they've rebuilt ( and they will warranty ) on it.

I know here in Dayton Ohio there is a starter rebuilding shop called " Dayton Quality Starter " that you can take your starter to and they will rebuild it and give it back to you. After you've paid their fees of course. And they will warranty it.
I don't remember if they take starters off cars or vehicles or not it's been a while since I've been there.
I went to them when I was working on my brother's tow truck. The timing was off a little and the starter back spun and the nose of the starter broke. I bought a nose from them.

Sorry that I once again wrote a book.
I have a tendency to do that.

Like always I wish you luck and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy your truck soon.

If you have unlimited data on your phone it will not cost you nothing except for your phone bill of course to look for a place that specializes in starters and electronics on vehicles.

You can call them and talk to them on the phone and ask all kinds of questions that you want to.
Worse you can hear is we're not going to answer nothing unless you pay us.
