I want to get one of the Sony xplod 12inch sub woofers in an enclosed box and i just wondered if anyone had one and if they sound good. I just want something that sounds good and is under $100 i don't want to blow away the neighbors i just want to add some bass to my truck

if your not looking for anything high tech. its ok at best.

its not the tight bass a better sub will put out.

and the box isnt the best design for the sub its in.

but for a someone just wanting to add a little more bass. itll work.

just dont get it at wally world.

Garage sales are your friend... I got a Memphis sub and a heavy duty box for 10 bucks at a garage sale. Looked it up and it was worth 300... only problem was a few specs of paint.

For someone who doesnt really know how to check a used sub. i would highly recommed against anything used.

dont know what kind of amp, what the gains were set at. how he used it.

could be a poc, or a good deal. but its not always worth the gamble.

For 10 bucks you really can't go wrong though... if it doesn't work then oh well... and you can find all the information you need for the power rating of the sub online and usually by looking on the back. Well get em in a box, if the sub failed I got a 100 dollar box out of the deal atleast.

wow...thats an incredibly wrong statement...no box is worth that much unless it AT LEAST double baffled (and i highly doubt yours is even built to specs of the sub you have) If you had it up you can build a box for under $75. i build a 4.2 cubed ported doubly baffled one 2 weeks ago and spent $75 on materials.

If you kno how to check out used subs then garage sales ARE your friend as well as Craigslist.

Well concidering the thing is made of 1" MDF and stuff. Plus you add on that I live in alaska so anything found up here usually has atleast 10% added on to the price. I will admit that the box is WAY over kill for the sub. The sub is around 150w RMS so yeah... The cubic dimensions are correct though for the sub.

Well since there is apparently a way to check out used subs. How is this done? I pull the sub and look for cracked or worn parts that shouldn't be, make sure there are no tears in the rubber, if they will be kind and hook it up to their car real quick to show it works, and try to smell the obvious smell of burnt electrical stuff. anything else? I figure run an OHM meter accross it too.

as for it being a wrong statment it is not... At the best buy and discount stores even walmart a 1/2 MDF or synthetic board sub box not to any particular specs run around 60 -100 bucks in alaska. It really depends on where your at.

i got a couple 10" xplod subs and they give great bass, considering my amp is way underpowered, a friend of mine had 1 12" xplod sub and that thing had a great sound.
hope this helps to the OP

yea all you really need to do to check a used sub is look at the surround, check the coils with a DMM, and push on the sonce with your hand to check for any coil rub. and you can still make a box like that for under $100 so i would NEVER pay that for a box....and boxes from Walmart and Best Buy are chitty prefabbed boxes that are NOT built to specs of hardly anything...but to each his own.

How to check a used sub. I have sold mine, and all ways have something I'm looking to get ride of, but I would never buy used subs. Ever! even if the owner of any sub company sold them to me for 10 bucks and told his daughter to blow me too. How ever you need them out of the box and a mm with you, and a very soft feel And good eye. First move the cone by hand. Make sure it's movments are liner. And you feel no rubbing of the coil. Tap the cone with a finger or two. They shouldn't move. And the sound should be a very faint (depending on how hard you tap) thump. Then examin the hole thing ever part of it. Look for thinning material were it has started to teAr. Feel the firm ness of the spider cage. Look for any molistation of the terminals. Use the. Mm on the circuts for ohms. And commplete circuts ect. There's a lot to check. Lol and it's best to know the person. Well. If you buddy had them for a week. And doesn't like them. Sure pick them up.

Also, I hate when people try and sell stuff In here. But it's cool imoo to ask. If thy have the rep to back it up. And see what's lying around. I always have stuff to sell and some more of the active people do to. And some one on here would be able to beat the online price. And shipping is shipping.
Also. This is an iPhone post, sorry if it's choppy.

Ya, I have a 12" in my X-Terra, it's plenty of bass for me. IIRC, i'm pushing 1200w to it (had it installed 5 years ago, I forget the specs). It's plenty loud and will "blow away the neighbors".

garage sales rock for car audio. i got 2 pioneer speakers in boxes with wires for 5 bucks. i used them for the stereo in my barn and they sound nice. the guy had a ton of other stuff he was practally giving a way too. i once went to a garage sale that had more car audio stuff then my local best buy, the guy claimed he used to have his own store but it was for sure stolen. it was price right but i passed it buy because i had no $$ at the time.
