Something strange that happened to my B2

While driving down the road, all my gauges and lights when dead for about 1 second, then when I just touched the shift lever to put it in neutral and see if the truck was still running or not (I couldn't tell, as my tires make so much noise - going about 40mph) everything came back on. I drove home (1/4 mile) and just have it parked now. I looked up and didn't see any aliens trying to get me, so does anyone here know what would cause that to happen?

Thanks so much

Was the truck still running? Sounds like a lose ground connection and just moving the gear shift lever made enough movement to give the ground a connection again. Who knows, the wiring on these older vehicles starts to deteriorate so all sorts of gremlins will start showing themselves. The backlight on my fuel/temp/battery/oil pressure gauge pod works sometimes and sometimes it don't, if I beat on the dash it comes on LOL.

Check ground strap from head to firewall, that often gets left off after engine work.

Usually on the back of drivers side head to firewall, this is the main ground for the cab electrics, it reads like the shift cable/linkage has been serving that purpose for awhile.

If you can't find it add one.

Battery ground runs to block, and sometimes there is a smaller ground led to rad support, that's for the headlights.
Engine and trans are isolated by rubber mounts, as is most of the body from the frame by rubber grommets and painted parts.
So there is usually a ground strap from block to frame and from block(head) to cab(firewall).
