Some people piss me off......

I'm glad that didnt happen to me, i am very short tempered with people like them. I use an 85 f-350 to haul around the ranger, sure it doesnt get shit for mileage and is prolly harmful to the environment. But like rusty said, i paid for the truck, the gas, and i can do what i please. I cant stand people like that who think they can dish shit out like there a scientist who will save the world

I'm sure she'll change her point of view the 1st time she's in a fender bender and her car crinkles up like a soda can. Oh and did you mention how many trees her freaking pamphlet killed?

When I gased up today this dumb lady was talking on her cell at the pump next to me (which you aren't supposed to do) and the lady is talking to someone saying they need to drive to town and fill up before the gas prices rise. WTF, are people really so ignorant? I mean, let's drive miles to a gas station and waste gas just to (think) we are saving a few pennies! People are retarded.

Ok so let me get this straight. Because i drive a 78 150 4x4 with a gas hog 400m in it from point a to point b (home to school) and then point b to point c (school to work) and the back to point a again, that makes me a "tard" or a "meathead". I'm sorry but im calling anyone who calls me such, and asshole. I dont have the money to afford the kind of car that gets 20-30 miles a gallon. I have what i have because its what i could afford. I drove it daily for years, while in high school i drove a 78 2wd with a 460, from home to school and back and where ever the heck else i had to go. Ya wanna know why???? HMMM??? BECAUSE ITS ALL I HAD!!!!!!!! Not everyone can buy a car thats great on mileage. So i should sell my truck right, because im polluting and wasting gas........so it doesnt matter to anyone that it has family history and means something to me??? Dont get me wrong im not saying that everyone should be driving gas hogs, or that everyone needs one. Im simply saying that if your calling me a tard for daily driving a gas hog, then why dont we go out behind the wood shed and have a chat about it? In recent months ive been able to get my Ex going, and its gets 19mpg, as such i drive it more than my truck. But why should i not drive my truck, and let it sit and rot, or risk the motor rusting up (ive seen it happen in less than time than you think) just because it sucks gas. Im sorry but you can kiss my fat @$$.

PS Jspa, i think you need a little more truck for that camper...or some helper springs cause that just hurts.

I kind of just skimmed through this whole thread, and got the gist of what everyone is trying to say. The comment from somebody earlier, referring to Rusty saying "you kind of people is why America is ugly.." and all that mumbo jumbo, is that comment that is most wrong with the whole thing. Everybody has their opinons yes, just as this thread has shown. But i don't think Rusty was trying to brag to the old lady in the Prius that "I Can drive whatever i want lady, you can't stop me!, i don't care if it shoots flames thirty feet in the air, and burns trees down as i go by!!!!!!" No, Rusty started that conversation like a normal small talk, and she started in on him with her "mumbo jumbo" about Global Warming and all this stuff. It is those people who make America "ugly". I don't care if you want to chain yourself to a tree before it is cut down, more power to you, but do not try to force me to join your cause if i don't want to, and don't redicule me for going about my own business, and making my own descisons. I will eat Meat whenever i want, i will drive a vehicle that i like, and i will watch whatever kind televison program/movie or whatever i want to watch. For Pete's sake, it is those kind of people who took the cookies away from Cookie Monster! It's their fault that Saturday morning cartoons no longer include Nija Turtles, or Transformers, or Gi Joe....only mindless educational crap....that isn't educational, i honeslty think babies get stupidier by watching it. THe lady with the Prius was trying to force her crap down rusty's throat, and he acted the right way, just went about his own business and threw her phamplet away. It's those people, not Rusty, who make America look bad.....along with Walmart. Seriously their Milk, Great Value milk, you tell me where in this country the "Great Value Farms" is located at, show it to me, either way i don't care, it doesn't taste as good or the same as Swiss Valley, and Prarie Farms, i don't care how cheap it is.....but that's another rant.

Sorry, but just because you paid for it, doesn't mean you have a right to excessivly pollute, it may be your rig, it may be your gas (although privatization of such crucial resources is really criminal in and of itself, but it's a hurdle we'll never get over) but it's everyone's environment that your're fucking up and everyone will have to pay for it. The whole "it's my right, I paid for it" is like me saying "I paid for the cola, it's my right to piss all over your yard, and if you don't like shove off".

As for the "It's all I had" excuse, that's b.s. to me, you can get an older civic or vw or anything of that nature for around 500 bucks, and be on the road cheaper than any truck you're driving now, people who drive big trucks do so for two reasons: they need to, or they want to, and the only people who need em are people towing/hauling, plain and simple.

Some people just don't want to face up to the fact that what they're doing IS ultimately selfish, and based on desire rather than utility, and I just love listening to the excuses.

My F-150 while getting 20 mpg runs many times cleaner than my brothers '68 bug that gets 45, milage isn't the only way to way to measure the envromental impact. It is quite possible for a newer truck to be cleaner than a older car, especially if it isn't quite up to spec, which for $500 it very well might not be.

your posting this on a Ford ranger web sight and judging by your name you have and drive a ranger, which, unless you have extensively modified it to run on corn, batteries or freaking baby tears, it burns good ol' fashioned gasoline and has some form of oil running threw it. meaning you are supporting the "criminal" acts being performed by the oil industries. as for the "it's my right, I paid for it" well damn right it is. we work hard for the things we own and no bunny hugging, environmental rights tard is going to take it from me. a single volcanic eruption spews out more air pollutants than every car in the world combined does in one year, so before you start spewing your self righteous garbage sit down and do some hard thinking.

I think it is pretty obvious we all have different views on this topic.

I seen that on I think history channel apollo. A volcano puts out as many harmfull pollutants in ones days worth of eruption/activity then the entire world of cars does in over a year. Earth is killing itself. How many volcano's go off every year? For everyone its putting out a ton more pollution then any car does. Earth is killing itself with pollution and theres nothing we can do about it. We are just a small factor of pollution this world has.

I'm assuming the "it's all I had" part was at least partially directed at me. I do not use that as an excuse for anything. I was simply saying it may be one reason why I haven't been harassed about the Explorer. I will admit fully that I bought my Explorer because I like having a 4WD I can take in the woods for no particular reason other than to drive through dirt.

However, the only environmental advantage of driving a $500 Civic or VW is that you are putting off its destruction, which will of course lead to some form of pollution. Every Civic I have seen that is dirt cheap burns a huge amount of oil, very likely has a gutted cat, and in general is not an environmentally friendly vehicle. Most cheap vehicles are not. My Explorer is certainly not helping anything, but at least its emissions controls are all functioning, it doesn't burn oil, and it doesn't leak very much.

Nobody really has to have a car. There is always a clean alternative, it just depends on how much you are willing to give up. Someone driving a hybrid or a $500 Civic is still selfish. They could be on a bike. The problem with bikes is that there is probably at least a little bit of pollution when they are made, and certainly a lot when they are transported, so bikes are selfish too. Everyone who isn't selfish should be walking.

as for the "it's my right, I paid for it" well damn right it is. we work hard for the things we own

We live in the western world, no we don't.

And yes, I used to drive a lifted Ranger, and even a car with a '69 3.5 alloy v8 in it, but at least I'll admit the gluttony behind driving them, and don't drive them anymore, sure I'd love to, but I'm not going to act like doing so isn't a shitty, and pointless thing to do (aside from the pleasure I get from it). As for the shitty emmissions point, I've gotta disagree, not even sure how you could buy and plate a car that won't pass an emissions test, perhaps your emissions laws aren't doing their jobs afterall, and even environmetal considerations aside (which is a common theme in the posts of this thread) let's not forget the EXCESSIVE consumption denial going on, what reason is there to consume a finite resource (one we need for things like ambulances, semi's to ship food, all the basic elements of our society etc) at more than double the necessary rate? Because we fuckin' want to and we can?

Societal Denial for the win!

Vehicles built before 1996 (pre OBD II) have no emissions inspection in NC. Your $500 Honda Civic can burn a quart a mile and there isn't a thing the state will do about it (unless you managed to find a 1996 or newer Civic for $500).

The History Channel?

Comparison of CO2 emissions from volcanoes vs. human activities.
Scientists have calculated that volcanoes emit between about 130-230 million tonnes (145-255 million tons) of CO2 into the atmosphere every year (Gerlach, 1999, 1991). This estimate includes both subaerial and submarine volcanoes, about in equal amounts. Emissions of CO2 by human activities, including fossil fuel burning, cement production, and gas flaring, amount to about 27 billion tonnes per year (30 billion tons) [ ( Marland, et al., 2006) - The reference gives the amount of released carbon (C), rather than CO2, through 2003.]. Human activities release more than 130 times the amount of CO2 emitted by volcanoes--the equivalent of more than 8,000 additional volcanoes like Kilauea (Kilauea emits about 3.3 million tonnes/year)! (Gerlach et. al., 2002)

I am partial on this argument. I think people should be able to drive what they want with out fear of ridicule. If you truck or car gets crappy milage so what, just as long as you you it for more than just going around town.(use it for hauling or like a muscle car which should only be driven around alittle or when you feel like having some fun) I drive my ranger for the thrill but it gets better gas mileage then alot of the cars on the road with the 4x4 and 6 cyl.(even some 4 cyl. and 2x4s or fwd) and i have a stock 2.8L carburated with no working emissions stuff(no cat or any thing) and i get around 23MPG:headbang:. I also drive an F250 with an International 7.3L diesel. and any way she has no right to chew you out like that, if she wants to save the world then let her but tell her that she can take all of her little tree hugging friends into the woods and play hide and go **** your self or stay there(either or). She shouldn't assume that you drive that every day. And one more thing if her car is such a green car and gets such good gasmileage why is she at the gas station. and also if it is a hybrid you have to replace the batterys on them like every ten years and you know how much they cost 10,000$:shok:. i think i ranted to long oh well:dntknw:

as a firefighter I see alot of wrecks... I'll say this, i will never have a hybrid, or a gas car of the same size. At the same time, I will look at an suv for what it is... I have seen more fatalitites from SUV's than hybrids, just because of the mentallity of the drivers, people think that they are invincible. Hybrids crush worse than a super beetle.

As A firefighter you should be more worried about hybrids and electric cars do to when you are extercating somebody and cut through a nice electrical cable and light up you or another person on your crew. that is why as a medic I stand back and let you guys light yourselfs up. and as a driver of a hybrid (as if I would ever spend the money on a new car) I would feel like shit when a ff gets killed trying to save my dumbass life.
point is when you extercate on a hybrid becareful and look up the wiring point of the car your working on along with the airbag placement in the cad. (not sure you have computer on board the apperatus)
