Should I sell my Ranger?

sounds like he shouldnt be in this form bashing rangers.............oh yeah keep the ranger

You cannot possibly think because you haven't had an issue with your new toyota in a two week period, it means it will be more reliable than your ranger. Unless you only owned the ranger two weeks also.

I would keep the ranger if I were you. You obviously like the truck if you spent so much time making it your own. I usually wait a year or so when I get a new vehicle to accessorise it.

However, if your ranger has a bad rep for not being reliable then I might consider purchasing the toyota as a second vehicle.

Just my $0.02

plus if you sell your ranger, there are no good sites like this one. you would have to come back and bash fords like nova, jk.

Hey guys so I've got kind of a dilema. I have a 1994 xl 4.0L swap, explorer rear axle w/ disk swap, nice bucket seats, overall good truck. I have the opportunity to pick up a 98 tacoma limited trd for about $3500.

My question is whether I should give up the truck that i've put a bunch of work into and really have gotten it the way I like it (except it has no A/C), for a newer truck with fewer miles, more powerful engine, better gas mileage, and more reliable truck?

Let me know guys I have about five days to make a decision, any input is welcome and appreciated.

more powerful?:icon_confused: i have driven both the ole 4.0 is a fairly strong little motor. I hate newer toyotas. imho the only good toyotas were the 79-85's. just my $.02

Sell the Ranger....buy the Toyota. I sold my Ranger and bought a 91 Toyota. I have owned it for 2 weeks so far...and it has already shown it has been more reliable than my Ranger. I'd say get it. If you can keep both then go ahead.

dude not saying your not welcome here, but what the taco forum didn't like you or you just think your better. :dntknw:

if you go to a toyota forum, they will tell you to buy the toyota, in a ford forum of course we will tell you to keep the ford. the toyota is no doubt a good deal, but its not a ford. from working in a toyota dealer, toyotas are not all they cracked up to be. if you like customizing your truck, ford is the only way to go. but of course its your choice, buy what you like they are both good vehicles.

Pesonally, I'd take up the deal on the Tacoma.
In my opinion, it is a better truck... (that probably wasn't a smart thing to say here...)
You will get more life out of a Tacoma than you will a Ranger period. My dad has a friend who has had 4 different Toyota trucks over the last 20 years and he has put over 500,000 miles on each of them(two of which being Tacomas the other two were before that name came along). And a couple years ago, my mom had a Carolla with almost 400k on it.

Oh, by the way, here, we also use de-icer. Works great, especially when you add sand on the road too. My truck is 15 years old and has NO rust on it that I can fined. If I scrape off the mud, I see the original paint underneath, with the Ford logos on all the parts... And salt is less destructive to the car than sand and de-icer how??
You hardly ever see cars here that are all rusted out, if you do, they either went to the beach alot, or it came from somewhere else in the country.

EDIT: Pillen and Odie are right, "most" of the people here are going to tell you to keep the Ranger.
If you like having more of a modified street type truck, I'd say keep the ranger, but if you want an offroader, take the Yota. Toyotas have a VASTLY larger offroad aftermarket that Rangers do.

All i can say about toyotas is that in my area that allot of guys have yotas and very few still have boxes left or they have gone fiberglass, flatdeck, or ducttape. With the exception of my 83 ranger:annoyed:, i havent seen one around here with an equal rust problem. as for your dilema Id say if you can afford both do it, but if you can only have one just think deep and hard about what you have done to your ranger and if your wanting to do it to the yota.

My 90' ranger spent 12 years in Massachusetts. The only rust on her is on the rear corners of the cab. The frame is rust free. If the vehicle is well maintained (this includes maintenance and how it is driven) the ford will last equaly as long, if not longer.

why can't we all just get along......

I have nothing more to say. Don't hate ford...it is some of the ford faggots that think there ranger is just god...and it is the best and nothing else is good. I lived it, it sucked, and went another path. This time was much wiser.

Dude, your on a Ford Ranger site. :icon_confused:

If were ranger faggots, why are you not on the Toyota forum?

Yes, I can say that my Toyota is already more reliable simply of the fact that I bought it running and I didn't buy my Ranger running. Not bashing on Rangers...I still like them...but mine was simply a lemon...but I did really like it and I plan to buy another in the future.

reliability?, you cant throw a once non running truck into the same boat as a running truck when comparing reliability. Especially that truck being a Lemon

to tell you the truth, my ford ranger is dying. Its getting tired, and worn out. for what i bought it for it isn't worth dumping a butload of cash into. Im gonna run it untill i cant possibly run it any longer. Then ill look into getting a newer truck. I have thought about getting a tacoma. And i think your insulting alot of people here when you call them "ford faggots"

I like ford, ive grown up ford, live in a family of fords, all my friends drive fords, ive broke fords, fixed fords, built fords and wrecked fords. and! ALL TRUCKS/CARS have their own problems ford included, toyota also.

There is no perfect truck. end of story

I wouldn't say I am a Toyata "enthusiast', I realize that they are good trucks and I respect that (I would buy one if I had the money), just like I realize that Rangers are good trucks (or even S10's). I am not brand loyal. I buy things that will last and that I can afford. Rangers just fit the "I can afford" part ALOT better than most all other small trucks. I thoroughly believe you get what you pay for in a truck though.

I agree with Freebird, if a truck doesn't run, you should not base reliability on it (especially if it is a "lemon"). But then agian, realiability is not having that happen to it in the first place.

EDIT: I have a hunch this thread will get closed due to arguing...

WOW NOVA you really messed up this one. don't be so defensive. trucks are truck right. everyone at this site ahares a common interest.TRUCKS!!!! its up to you what you to buy. me personaly have owned a toyota for year and half. i traded up for the fact of my 91 toyota breaking and everything was so expensive to fix or upgrade. with my ranger everything is more affordable to upgrade and works just as well more better than the toyota. man sure glad i traded up cause you guys are great.
